This all feels like the same folks complaining about big SUVs also complaining about masks. Same mindset. If I'm below the age of 40 with no underlying conditions my chances of dyeing from Corona are about the same as being struck by lightening. For me I'm driving the Truck or SUV but I'm over 50 with an underlying condition so I'm wearing a mask. The do gooders among us are welcome to drive the Prius if you feel led and wearing a mask would be appreciated. I feel much safer when you do and forcing you to do so so that my family can be safer in the SUV I must admit is not beyond me. All that to say I get it. Carry on do gooders. I'll keep the faith and one day my family will be alone driving the SUV. This is all nonsense and just another tool to point fingers. Ware a freakn mask if you feel led and or are worried.

That is one giant paragraph of gibberish.

The example used here is...strange.

I've said several times that I would support stronger measures if there would be support at the National level for everyone who would lose their jobs. That's not happening in the current political climate.

Since the support isn't there, than Covid becomes about understanding and accepting personal risk. You can do your best to not sicken those around you, but expecting everyone in the country to make that call when we've got elected leaders on both sides doing nothing is a really hard ask.

Example: A High school friend of mine is a pastor in the Florida Panhandle. On Facebook today he released his video advertising the backpack drive his church was doing. Insisting that there would be strict social distancing and mask wearing during it, all the while a church event with roughly 100 people goes on behind him all packed into a tight space without masks on. About 3 minutes into the video he turns and acknowledges "Well, we're not social distancing now, but we're all family here"

In some US States, that entire event would be a violation of the law, and he'd likely be facing large amounts of fines for allowing the event to go on. In other places, gathering like that are protected by the law.

People may not like it, but this is where we are. Every state, every city, every county has different laws in terms of how to handle this. There's no strategy, and no support, so any attempt that a state makes to try and stop this ends up looking like we're throwing a bucket of water on a raging inferno.

Let me guess. You drive a Prius.
the fact that all 50 governors have a great amount of authority over their state seems to be a mind boggling concept for some. as with most things, one size does not actually fit all and so in our country you have various responsibilities at every level of government so as to fit the needs of every different locale. me being a red state conservative, I dont need to see my leaders or sports heroes or favorite movie star wearing a mask to decide if I personally consider it a good idea...which I do when out near other folks or where the local authorities have asked us to do so..NBD. the odds are pretty small of getting the virus and even smaller of having a lethal dose of it so most people I know are cautious but not in an everyday panic over it. I personally have tuned out the daily numbers and am just going about my business as normal as I can but I dont scoff at anyone who is more concerned about it. IMHO

If a breakout and subsequent hospitalizations and deaths are linked to that service in the video, should he be held accountable for facilitating the gathering and the ensuing spread of the virus?
We burried my father yesterday. He had a police honor guard, Amazing Grace on bagpipes, and his final wishes fulfilled but one, we were not able to be with him when he passed. I don’t want my father to be a statistic, he was so much more than that, earning 5 degrees and spending over 40 years both working in and teaching law enforcement. But he will always be apart of these growing 150k American Angels taken too soon. Debate as you will and do what you think is best, just think of how it will effect others before you do it.

Im sorry to hear about your father's passing, condolences for your family.
Sorry to hear about your father.
Sorry for you loss.

Got a brother in law waiting on his test. Fever, body aches, fatigue. He had one test that was negative but it's gone on for over a week now. Not much doubt in my mind. He probably picked up at work. He works for a state agency and our governor put them back in offices during stage 2 of reopening. Ironic part was my brother in law was the interim director of his department so he was tasked with making the workplace safe by running split shifts, keeping people in the field when he could, not having desks close together. Then he comes down with it. Luckily he's in good shape and only having mild symptoms. We're both in our 60's.

Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Do it for the rest of us please.

For those that seem to think that covid isn't affecting the players. One of the many LSU kids that contracted covid.

For reference, here's the start date for classes for each Sun Belt football school. If these are typical in the other leagues playing football, I'd say to go forward with football season.

Troy: August 12th
Georgia Southern: August 17th
Appalachian State: August 17th
UL August 17th
ULM: August 17th
South Alabama August 17th
Coastal Carolina: August 19th
Georgia State August 24th
Arkansas State August 25th
Texas State August 26th

Out of curiosity, wha are y’all plans with classes (face to face vs online etc) and campus housing?

Coastal allowing on campus, move in already began. Was planned as full go face to face; then changed to first couple weeks virtual, before face to face. Now the delayed face to face has been altered to have 1/3 of classes attend face to face every third day in rotation... I.e. go live every third day, virtual the other 2 days. That’s supposed to last several weeks, then finally allow real face to face. Sounds like buying time.

I believe AState brought kids on campus a week early for virtual classes as a trial run to see if infections kicked up.

At least my run through the drive through at the local Ice Cream joint was made much longer by large numbers of college students who were sitting outside eating.

Public Schools start here on Monday statewide. Only exception is Little Rock, where teachers are threatening to go on a sick out again...

ULM has on-campus housing at normal levels of capacity.

Since Louisiana is still only in Phase 2 of reopening, the maximum capacity of classrooms is cut in half. Professors have a lot of freedom in how they run their classes under these restrictions, and most are doing some sort of hybrid setup, although some are letting students stay virtual during their assigned in-person class day. Some classes went fully online (mostly those with older professors).

Masks are required inside every building on campus, and outside as well if 6 feet of social distancing isn't possible. Most buildings have ways of limiting contact inside, like one-way hallways and staircases, and designated entrances and exits.

I think I covered everything. It's been an interesting start to the semester.

We actually welcomed a record freshman class this fall which was probably unexpected for a pandemic. Our dorms are at capacity and some students had to be placed in off-campus apartments. According to posters on GSUFans who have kids at GS, its a mix of in-person, distance-learning, and fully online classes, just depends on the class. Most of the big lecture hall-style classes have gone fully online.

Game changer. This will have an impact if this condition is serious and it certainly sounds serious. If it is I'm out. Happy to pack it in and wait for next year.
