Malone and the backup PG, McCoy, were both out. Not sure of the reasoning or for how long.

Saw on twitter where Malone and McCoy have academic issues and their return is up in the air. With that being said, what once seemed like progress with wins over Rice and UAB now appear like the highlights of the season especially if we are going to rely on Rigby and Weatherspoon as reliable subs instead of late game mop up duty. Should Malone and McCoy be done for the season that puts us at 5 lost/inactive on the season (Dean, Isaiah Jones, Denijay Harris, Malone and McCoy).

Make that 6. Angel Smith was lost for the season with a broken wrist.
OT win over Charlotte today. The 49ers came in 12-8, 6-3.

We blew a 9-point lead in the final 2 minutes of regulation. Not good, but not particularly surprising, either, when only 7 guys played, 4 of whom ended up with at least 40 minutes. To overcome that kind of momentum and win the OT is pretty impressive regardless.

Again, Ladner points the finger at himself for the breakdowns, which I totally respect:

Quote:"I felt like we had to win the game twice," head coach Jay Ladner said. "We have some work to do protecting the lead and getting the basketball in against the press. That one's on me. It's one of the first times this year we've won a game that tight. We've practiced it, but there's a huge difference especially with young guys in executing under pressure. We didn't do a good job executing, including leaving a wide-open three to end regulation."
A 7-point win over FIU today makes it 2 wins a row & 3 out of the last 5.

With the (still dumbf***) CUSA flex schedule pitting all us bad teams against each other the rest of the way, there’s a decent chance we’ll end up qualifying for the conference tournament.

2 wins should get us in and 1 may be enough depending on how the other games shake out.
and if USM is lucky they will get to play in the dual court tournament. Nothing screams stupid and cheap more than two games being played right next to one another in the same building.

It’s truly mind-boggling how many stupid decisions CUSA continues to make no matter the year or the membership roster. It’s been that way since we named the thing.

Tulane’s came in 6-1 with a largely creampuff schedule, but they beat Middle Tenn by 8 and won at Utah. I actually feel a little bit better after this one. This season just may end up being plain sh** instead of flaming sh**.

HP, it appears "flaming" won the 'shite award'...
