SELA is a D1 basketball program though with comparable athletic support to USM basketball (financially). Limiting D1 to G5/P5 is disingenuous. Ladner is bad and will continue to prove how little our administration cares about basketball as they allow him to wallow around 7 wins for 6 years before making any change.
From his twitter account it seems like Jacdonmi will be back for Monday's CUSA opener at home vs La Tech. Still not sure of Art's status

losses to three pretty good teams by 28, 25, and 25...

bad loss to a school nobody's heard of by 3 on the road...another to a non basketball sun belt entity by 6...

2 home wins over division II and naia schools...

gonna be a long year fellers....

Then look at it this way. Someone at an early age found Doc Sadler a good enough coach to bring him onto a college staff and felt he could help them win.

tack on another double digit loss to a bama team that isn't very good....

It's gonna be very disappointing if it is exposed that Doc is a better coach than Jay. Bama was a winnable game and it wasn't close. We can't defend the perimeter.

Doc is a better coach than Jay. That's not debatable. Doc Salder .505 4 NIT and 1 NCAA. Jay Jadner .452 1 NIT. Doc has accomplished more against better competition. I am willing to give him a chance but lets not pretend that this is an upgrade in any way.

You're serious? This is your argument? Doc has been a head coach at a P5 or G5 program (pardon me for using football terms but you get the idea) for 13 years. Ladner has been for a few weeks. Think that skews things some? Give me a break. Ladner's NIT at SELA was the only one SELA has had in school history. He may be terrible (I doubt it), but to compare their numbers at this point is asinine.

Not really they've had similar lengths in careers. The biggest thing to me is that at a young age (20s) someone saw enough in Doc to bring him into a college basketball program and let him coach at the college level. It took Lander until his (40s) to get a shot at the college level. Sadler has been at a lot of different programs and has been exposed to a lot of college basketball. Ladner has been at SELA and USM. That probably doesn't speak to anyone other than me.

trust me, you're not alone pal....

I've known Jay for over 40 yrs. at this point....quality athlete, quality man, quality father, but wrong hire....

as a fan, I can only hope the latter proves me wrong...
Hunter Dean has entered the transfer portal. Sonofabitch.

Hopefully he lands at a good D2 program where he can get some playing time.

This is gonna sound really petty, i know, but sometimes it kinda annoys me how chipper some of our staff are on Twitter when talking about basketball. How we need to come out to support this good team and how we’re the only team to improve our conference record five years in a row (5 to 11 between those five years, it’s not something to brag about). I know they’re trying to sell tickets, I really do, but it seems very callous to the situation, almost oblivious to it.
“We’re all about putting losses behind us,” said Ladner. “That’s what we’re going to do the rest of this year, next year and the year after next."

Well this is a an uplifting message that gives us all something to look forward to!

buh bye Jay....if one's timeline is 3 yrs. of acceptance absorbing the L column, well, 'nuf said....

again to date, it's still 1 d1 win against a school that no one has ever heard of....

can't recruit, can't defend, can't protect the ball.............CAN'T CORCH........

What's worse is they think our people will bandwagon to that lilliputian level of improvement. So little regard. Better they just say join the long hard rebuilding effort that will achieve results faster with your support. Like a barn raising.

Because if there’s one thing you want your head coach to have a handle on, it’s the right way to lose.
Over in one of the football threads someone made a post in regards to offers the players had and here's a brief one of this year's players:

- Denijay Harris - USM was only offer, hasn't played this year
- Jeffery Armstrong - USM was only offer
- Angel Smith - Rhode Island, Dayton, Kansas St, USM
- David McCoy - walk on and not listed on rivals
- Arthur Konontsuk - not listed on rivals website
- Jay Malone - USM was only offer
- Auston Leslie - USM was only offer
- Bill Muse, Jr - walk on, at previous school avg 0.3 points and 0.3 rebounds in 4 games played
- Jerrod Rigby - walk on from Southeastern La with no stats
- Isaiah Jones - is he even on the team still??
- Hunter Dean - left team already

So of the 11 new players only 1 it appears had any quality offers from someone besides us; and of the 11 newbies 3 have combined to either never touch the court or have left the team already.

Definitely not the start we needed player wise or record wise
At least for basketball, there are *some* valid excuses. Not saying they hold weight at the end of the day, but it’s not like we’ve been good. Then we hired an unexciting coach with no success in his history. Players I’m sure are flocking to us.

another loss by 12 at UTEP tonight....

w/o question, he's got a firm grip on the art of losing...

oh wellzy, it's a given he's already looking at Sat. vs. UTSA....by Sat. eve, he'll be looking at next Thursday's game vs. UNT....

1-12 vs. d1 competition....

the post game interview is a joke.....Jay's babbling defines the Peter Principle at it's finest.....

"I don't what the answer is, but we're gonna keep working at it." well said, corch....

Two quotes on SouthernMiss.com caught my attention:

“I have to try to figure this thing out.”

“It went from trading baskets there to where the big run came off missed shots. We were standing and watching. I'll take responsibility for my guys in wins and losses.”

He may be a bust, but I can at least respect that he knows what he doesn’t know and accepts responsibility for the results. That’s kinda refreshing after months of Jay “One WR Got Hurt So We Couldn’t Score Anymore” Hopson’s obliviousness.

it kills me how in most if not all D1 games we've played we continue to get killed at the FT line. Last night we were 14-17 while UTEP was 34-37.....not a typo, they made 34 of 37. The first half we had 0 attempts while UTEP went a perfect 13 of 13. That makes probably 6 or 7 times we've gone a half without shooting a FT and probably close to 10 games we've shot 2 or less FT in a half.
