Look forward to meeting him Saturday morning. ?

Getting a James Franklin guy would be interesting.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETS TOMORROW MORNING LET'S GET THIS THING SIGNED SEALED DELIVERED.
We knew that yesterday. This is going to be the first time a coach will be introduced and no one knows who it is beforehand.
Sources telling me it’s someone who name is almost a GS slogan[/align]
So, if what is rumored turns out to be true Gillin is passing on guys like Searles, Horton, Woody, Sloan and Ivey. Guys, who by Gillin's very definition of what he was looking for in the next coach, tons of experience, an intimate connection and someone who understands the Mountaineer culture. For App a guy who's been coaching 7 years and never set foot in Boone? OK...

Gattis would surprise me. If he is the choice he will either get fired within 4 years or be gone to a higher job

GaSo fans no matter who we hire ... to you it will be a bad hire. If we hire Gattis all we will hear is that he will be gone either way in 4 years. If we hire Horton then you will say it is laughable because no one else wanted him. It doesn't matter who we hire you will find something to make yourselves feel good about being in control of the series.
I know App fans are probably getting anxious with early signing right around the corner but I'm sure everything will work out fine. Enjoy your Bowl game this week and beat the pants off those CUSA Blue Slackers!

No one said it would be a horrible hire.

As he isn't a long time App guy like Satterfield though, I wouldn't doubt he's using it to further his career. Nothing wrong with that.

But this hire is like our hire of Summers, he's either successful and he moves on in a few years or he gets fired and the next guy takes over. There'll be less patience because he's not an "App guy."
Horton - never made it above a position coach ... kinda worries me. Like why have you not been a coordinator or got any other job you have applied for?

Searles - Gonna lose his job in Miami probably. (Their fans even said we don't wish him on App State even)

Ivey - Just not sure he is ready yet. (Defensive guy)

Sloan - probably ready (Defensive guy)

Woody - Not personable enough to be a HC IMO (Defensive guy)

Gattis - Worked at two P5 football powerhouses and respected by both coaches at those schools. Is a great recruiter. (Offensive guy) We get 5 years max if he is good.

Based on those I want Gattis. I just don't think defensive coaches make the best head coaches unless they have great OCs. Is he risky yes. The others may be safer but what if they turn out to be mediocre as well.

At some point we have to be able to maintain our culture and our winning ways no matter who is at the helm. If we keep winning no one is staying anyways. Welcome to the G5.
I think Nick Saban is a pretty good head coach being a defensive guy. Oh, Kirby Smart isn’t bad if he can learn what to do on 4th and 11 at midfield.

If Gattis becomes our hc, and is successful (he better be, we have a top 25 maybe top 20 team next yr). He will be gone in 3 yrs, nothing against APP, but odds are good he already sees himself coaching a P5 school within the next 3, 4 yrs max, honestly, I would be thrilled if we get 3 yrs whoever we hire.

In today's big money coaching environment that's what we all are. Stepping stones and that's OK. I don't think any of us want a HC that's just good enough that you may not fire him but not good enough to get offers from the big money programs.
New coaches bring excitement so enjoy it. 1 of the downsides is you have a good many coaches coaching the bowl games who know they will be gone afterwards but it is what it is
Any of our programs can do well if we get 3 yrs plus with each HC, it’s when the turnover is less than 3 that your in trouble. If Gattis, or whoever becomes our coach doesn’t agree to a large buyout, then we should say thanks and move on to the next candidate, I’m really interested to see the details of the contract.
We are supposedly going to rework Lunsford s contract to up his pay. I assume it will also up his buyout
