He left App originally for more money. Now he gets the Co-OC title with Louisville, which could bring more money and he can hitch his wagon back to Satterfield.
Drinkwitz
A pleasant surprise. Someone better than Ledford.
Arkansas State... He has a background with you guys... any thing to add other than?:

At Arkansas State

- Worked under head coach Gus Malzahn in 2012 and Brian Harsin in 2013.

- Arkansas State ranked 23rd nationally in rushing offense in 2012, averaging 206.2 yards per game.

- The Red Wolves had seven games with more than 200 rushing yards, and led the Sun Belt with 31 rushing touchdowns.

A true "up-and-comer" congrats on the hire App St!
I think it's a good hire. Without him taking over the offense I doubt we win the conf. under Harsin.
Don't know much about him, but on paper sounds pretty solid. Was he even on anyone's radar as being a candidate? I hadn't heard his name until today. Seems like that happens more often than not lately. Everyone is "sure" that it's going to be "X", and then someone out of the blue is hired.

Good Luck
I have a feeling this was not the1st or maybe even the 2Nd choice but he seems like a good hire provided he has a good DC in mind
I have a feeling you don't have a clue.

The first choice by "sources" was Ledford. Ironically this guy was his boss last year.

Ledford was the Associate Head Coach. Sir Drink-a-Lot was just the OC. I'm wondering if Ledford actually recommended Drinks to Gillin or recommended that he throw his hat in the ring.
One thing for sure y'all are going butcher his name.
Underwhelming hire. Not Tyson Summers level, but with having zero ties to Appy, I can’t figure it out.

He’s coming from an in-state school so he has all the local recruiting ties already. He’s not an “App guy”, but so what. He’s succeeded everywhere he’s been. He’s young with a ton of upside, but also experienced as a coordinator. Checks all the boxes from what I see, not sure how you can do much better then that at our level.

Maybe he falls flat, you never know until the guy is in that HC seat. I wouldn’t count on it though.

Believe you have a good coach but your assistant HC looks like a real winner as well. The players seem to certainly like him and play hard for him. I don't think I could have passed him over.
Soooo...Shawn Clark head coach with Nate Woody returning?

Are you making things up about Woody? Can't toy with peoples emotions like that. The architect of 30% of the conferences defenses returning to it's rightful birth place.

To me, not living in Boone, it seems that there is still some wariness of strangers in that area. Drinkwitz was a stranger and while people welcomed him, they didn't exactly embrace him. Now when you welcome someone and trust them at their word, while not embracing them, you get the "AHA!" moment that many App fans are going through now.

At any rate, most people suspect Clark is at the top of the list but no one knew, or those that knew didn't say anything, about Drinkwitz until it was announced. I suspect this will be the same.

Don't really see a scenario where Clark isn't promoted, given the time until recruitment and the uncertainty with the AD. Given how successful the promotion of Satt was, I'm sure the admin wants to see if lightning can strike twice by doing the same with Clark.

Different administration in place, other than the BoT. Satterfield was "The Chosen One" of sorts. I'm not sure if Clark was anointed as well but it wouldn't come as a surprise.

Considering the winfall of experience from 2020 to 2021, I'd think gaining stability at the top would be of utmost importance. If this recruiting class fell through App would be looking at a rebuild in 2021 rather than a reload.

It’ll be interesting to follow for sure. App is in a very similar situation as Southern was at the end of 2015. Lost a head coach who never “bought in” to the community or culture fully, but was successful on the field. Bringing back a senior laden team that we thought talent alone would lead them to a minimum of 9 wins, we needed a guy who could get the most out of that roster and reload the one after. We all know what happens after.

I think Clark is simply the least risky.
