I believe Smith is also a grad transfer and will have one year of eligibility (if I read the DNR article correctly).
Some help around the rim. Rebounding is good. And I think that may be what Coach has in mind. Also teaching the freshman bigs HOW, which is important. He might be considering some redshirts too.
Can any of these ladies suit up for the men’s team? May need that at this point

Touché
Mr. OTP observed yesterday that he'd heard of teams starting 4 guards, but it looks like Coach O plans on starting 4 forwards. I reminded him that Kiki is a guard, and he came up with an image of Maddie weaving her way through the trees....
Mikaya Tynes, 6’2” from the 757 commits.

She’s considered a top 150 recruit and had offers from Pitt, Elon, uncw, w&m, Charlotte, ECU.

Great news. We are pretty much loaded with backcourt and wings. Can never have too many 6’2” forwards to mix it up inside. Nice!!
Coach O already received a verbal commitment from 6'1" Wing, Sherese Pittman, out of Steward HS in Richmond back in April.

We have 2 seniors on this upcoming season's roster...actually, both are grad transfers in Diouf from Ga Tech and Smith from Georgetown. The 2 verbals, Pittman and Tynes, should take those spots. I don't know if Irvine is on scholarship or on walk-on status. Obviously, if she's a walk-on, then Coach O still has another scholarship he can offer. Of course, there is always the chance some additional attrition could take place between now and next spring that opens up more.

Next year's 2022 signing class will be much larger (like last year's) as we start the upcoming season with at least 5 juniors (6 if Irvine is on ship) who will be seniors a year from now.

I believe women's hoops still allows 15 scholarships. do we have any unused ones that can be filled?

We have 15 players listed on roster. 1 of them is Irvine, who I believed entered JMU 2 years ago as a walk-on. Not sure if she's still on walk-on status or earned a ship. If she's on walk-on still, then Coach O has 1 more he can offer in this current 2021 signing class. If she's on ship, then he is done recruiting likely until spring and that's if and only if some attrition out of the program opens up something.

edit note: by "done recruiting" I mean with regards to signing more in this current class he is building. College coaches are never "done recruiting" of course. The good side to potentially signing these 2 young ladies who have committed during the early signing period upcoming in November (assuming they do) is it gives Coach O and his staff more time to focus on the HS underclassmen and less immediate recruiting to worry over and allows for more focus on the current season at hand...of course, hoping there will be a current season at hand this upcoming winter.
6-0 Sherese Pittman, 6-2 Makaya Tynes, and 6-2 Claire Neff all sign today. The first two were expected, Claire Neff was a freshman committed to Clemson but transferred to us a few months ago. She’ll be able to be with the team this season and play next year as a freshman. Very solid recruiting class...Sean’s classes have gotten better with each year, very promising for the prospect of a consistent top 25 team.
Former CAA WBB Rookie of the Year & 1st-Team All-CAA star Eva Hodgson from W&M has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer. I know we probably aren’t in the market, but she’s very very good.
Rayne Tucker commits to Towson. Wtf....

Really??? WTF is absolutely spot on.

What’s going on in Tucker’s mind?

Is there something happening behind the curtain of JMU WBB that fans are not privy to?

Something bizarre must be motivating this strange move.

Does she have a significant other that attends Towson? The move can’t be an issue related to playing time. Does Towson offer a particular course of study only found at TU that isn’t available at JMU? Is TU somehow closer to home for her?

For the life of me I can’t understand this particular move. This is a first in my recollection of JMU WBB.
She is from New Carrolton, MD which is close to Towson..maybe she needed to be home? That’s the only rationale I can think of. Very bizarre
That is interesting. It seemed like the transfer caught Coach O a bit unawares when she put her name in the portal, so if it were a family/homesick concern you'd think he would have been privy to that. Sucks that we will have to play her twice a year now
We just got her replacement. 6-1 transfer from GA State who averaged 13 pts and 8.5 rebs a game. Good pickup...will miss Rayne but we need players who want to be here.
Quote:With Rayne Tucker off to CAA rival Towson, the Dukes are adding 6-1 Georgia State transfer Taylor Hosendove. She averaged team-high 11.4 points and 8.9 rebounds in 2019-20, but only played one game this season. Started college at Clemson.
This will be her third school in 3 years, the new norm in college sports.

I hate it.
Coach leaves- I'm for the open, immediate transfer rule. Beyond that, not so much.
