The twitter link says Katelyn Crosthwait, not Ashlee.

Cr11owl was showing that Ashlee wasn't the only nominee.
FYI ... McDonald's released the names of "more than 800" nominees (including boys and girls) ... and it looks like there are quite a few more girls than guys (15 pages vs. 10.5 pages). Each game's final roster will have 24 players.
Looking at our current roster we actually have 6 McDonald's nominees on the team: Iademarco, Rainey, Erica, Mulkey, McCurry and Smith.
Schwartz's team, Ryle (22-4), won the Louisville Invitational Tournament over the weekend. Schwartz had 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in the championship game and was named Defensive MVP. She is also now the all-time leader in points and rebounds for her school.

Thanks dragon2 owl. Coach Langley is a one of the best recruiters at Rice as long as I can remember.

Are we recruiting or signed anyone who is currently playing in the state tournament?

Probably a bunch of 2020-2022s.

Mansfield Timberview was upset in the regional finals by Amarillo. So Destiny Jackson is not playing in the state tournament this week.
Northview (Ashlie Austin) lost to Lovejoy in the Georgia 6A quarterfinals.

ECLA (India Bellamy) lost to St. Francis in the Georgia A Private quarterfinals.

Smith is a top-100 recruit so that's probably the only top 100 either the men or women did sign yesterday. So next year's team will have three former top-100 recruits (Smith, Erica Ogwumike and Nancy Mulkey). And several others were close to top-100 types. I still think we'll be okay this year if the 10 healthy players can stay healthy, but the 2018-19 team for sure has top-25 potential.

bump - proving another poster wrong
Looks like we will have another champion on the team next year. Lauren had 14 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in the championship game.

Quote:Ryle saved its best for Sunday.

The Raiders trailed briefly before using a 15-0 first-quarter run to make Southwestern’s bid for another upset in the 58th KHSAA Girls’ Sweet Sixteen much harder to achieve. They fended off the Warriors to walk away from Rupp Arena with a 63-48 and their program’s first state championship.

Schwartz makes 1st team all-state in Kentucky. The POY is going to Marshall, and WKU has a commitment from one of the juniors on the 1st team. One of Schwartz' teammates will be one of the top recruits in the country for the class of 2020. She's already taken visits to UNC, Duke, UCLA, Oregon and Indiana, among others, but we may as well go after her too.
I wonder if we have any more schloraships available for 2020? A power forward would be great to get with experience. Sounds like Tennessee is having a lot of decent in their women program.
We're done unless Tayler Bennett goes on medical hardship, or one of the underclass players transfers out. I wouldn't think we'd recruit any more incoming freshmen, but I'm sure they'd consider a traditional transfer who would sit out a year (as that has worked out great with Iademarco, the Ogwumike sisters, and Mulkey). You don't tend to see as many graduate transfers in women's basketball (yet - it may increase in the future).
Ashlee Austin made the 6A First Team. Georgia goes up to 7A.

Looks like we are recruiting 6'4" Fatou Samb of Westside HS in Houston (Class of 2020).

Not sure how accurate stats are on MaxPreps, but averaged 9.4 points, 7.6 rebs, and 3.5 blocks her junior year. Looking through her Twitter she has had visits from Kansas, Michigan, UCLA, Wake Forest, Florida, California, Alabama, and Clemson. Probably some others that I missed.

It might be a bit of a longshot but Kiana Smith from Cal has announced she is transferring. She had very good numbers at Cal and likely will attract attention from a lot of big programs. But Scott Pera may have a connection with her dad (who is an assistant men's coach at Cal State Fullerton - I don't know if he knows him for sure, but he's probably decent friends with the head coach at Fullerton since they coached at Arizona State together). Smith will have to sit out a year, and then will have two years of eligibility remaining. But she's a 6-0 guard who was the #17 ranked player in the country in high school (and is a two-year starter at Cal) - worth waiting for.
