Yep, same with Benintendi. Don't forget though that the Reds didn't pass on either - they both were gone when we made our first pick at 12. Along with that I take some solace knowing that we really don't have a great place to play either one and that the HS kid we did end up taking, Tyler Stephenson, is having a really nice year at age 20 in Dayton at a key position.
The Reds actually drafted Benintendi in 2013 with the 31st pick, but didn't sign him. He opted to enroll at University of Arkansas. Got himself a nice payday with the Red Sox two years later as a result.
so at the very least, have all doubts about homer been squashed for good?
Mesoraco going on the DL for the same shoulder he had surgery on.

How Kremchek is still employed by this team astounds me.

How Kremchek is still employed by this team astounds me.

This is a quote taken from today's Enquirer: "The injury was officially termed a left shoulder strain."

If it is a strained shoulder, how in the world is that Kremchek's fault? Don't get me wrong here. I have no love for Doc Hollywood, but this is a little past the pale.
I have my own Doc Hollywood scars so take it with a grain of NaCl..:..when I read the word "strain" I hnormally hear "tear" with off-season surgery on deck.

Not a shoulder strain

Quote:DENVER – Devin Mesoraco landed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with an injury to the same shoulder that required surgery last season, but the current issue is unrelated to the ailment he dealt with last year.

Multiple sources said the current injury, termed a left lat strain, is not as serious as the shoulder labrum that the Cincinnati Reds catcher had repaired a year ago. The injury a year ago involved a ligament, while the current one involves a muscle.

Reds manager Bryan Price confirmed that prognosis, and said Mesoraco suffered the lat strain behind the plate when he tried to backhand a pitch during the team’s most recent home stand. Mesoraco received an anti-inflammatory shot, but was sent back to Cincinnati for an MRI on Tuesday after the issue continued to worsen.

IMO no. The jury is still out. There's consistency of his command and staying healthy that needs to keep happening. Believe me, I'm rooting for him to succeed.
Ok. I admit it. I'm becoming a Scooooooter G. fan. He's a bit in the Chris Sabo mold in terms of sneaky bat power, playing hard and just enjoying the game and being a Red. Here's Scooter's numbers with only 194 AB:

R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS
37 61 11 2 14 45 12 46 .314 .361 .608 .969

It was good to see him prove he can be effective, in Colorado no less. And his arm reportedly felt great the next day. But it's obviously a time will tell situation. I'm thinking with regard to Disco, no news is bad news. So it's hard to see the Reds making any kind of run at the playoffs next year without a solid year from Homer or us getting very lucky with several of the struggling and/or unproven kids (Finnegan, Stephenson, Garrett, Reed, Moscot, Romano, Mahle, Castillo etc.) making significant breakthroughs.
I think the injuries and lack of development of younger pitchers has pushed the process back a year. The goal this year was never about wins as much as having a foundation set where we knew we had 3 starters we could rely on next year and a couple close to being ready in the minors. Some good things have happened with the position players but the pitching has been an epic failure.
Ill take a split in Colorado. 6-4 over their last 10. Power numbers are up for the Reds this year as Duvall hit his 20th HR.

24 HR 19 2B 62 RBI .622 SLG - Votto
21 HR 14 2B 42 RBI .527 SLG- Schebler
20 HR 25 2B 61 RBI .564 SLG - Duvall
14 HR 12 2B 46 RBI .604 SLG - Gennett (only 202 AB)
12 HR 14 2B 44 RBI .446 SLG - Suarez
9 HR 18 2B 34 RBI .548 SLG - Cozart
Reds LHP Brandon Finnegan has surgery after tearing labrum in right shoulder. They also recalled Jesse Winker and optioned Sal Romano to Louisville.
Reds signed Hunter Greene at the actual very last minute. The bonus paid was over slot and was for $7.23 million. 17 years old, no drivers license.

The only thing he needs is a checking account.

Remember what I said about when they call it a strain? It's amazing the percentage of times that means tear and surgery on this team.

Yep. Glad he can't drive yet with that signing bonus. No Chapman speeding car repeat, please.

Quote:"That being said, our strong preference was to get this young man signed, because we think he is a generational talent and we really think he's going to have a positive impact on our team."

Greene has already been to Cincinnati and passed his physical. The next step remains fluid, but he will either report to Rookie-level Billings or the AZL Reds in Goodyear, Ariz.

"We think he's got impeccable character and pretty impressive on-field ability," Williams said. "He's the kind of guy we want to sign and build around. The guys we've taken at the top of the Draft the last two years, not just the first round but top couple of rounds, are going a long towards rebuilding this franchise the way we want going forward. Hunter is a big part of that."
Greene Gets The Green

Now Reds are saying after he went on DL he slipped jumping from a boat to the dock and that's why he had surgery for a torn up shoulder. This team needs to slaughter a goat or something to get rid of evil spirits.

Maybe instead they could slaughter an entire front office, an owner and a medical staff while they're at it. Just a thought, probably one that you are not supposed to put on the internet.
is ole kremmie the coaches primary care physician as well?
