I find OM fans to be far more arrogant than State fans, but it always depends on which ones you meet. And to give credit where it's due, State was close to if not the first college team to really invest in baseball. They're proud of it. Doesnt mean they're good this year though. Handle our business, get a hopeful national seed, go to Omaha, finish the job like they couldn't do.
Both fanbases are terrible in their own special way.

Ole Miss fans are arrogant pricks, but they don't really give a damn about USM. A lot of their alums live out of state (or in DeSoto County) so they aren't really exposed to USM at all. State, OTOH, has most of their alums (or at least more than OM) in Mississippi.

Go to any State board (SPS/EliteDawgs) after a TTT moment and there will probably be some thread with some idiots making jokes about how we have 10 fans or how we starved our mascot 30 years ago. You can't really say the same of Ole Miss.

But yes, Ole Miss fans/alums are obnoxious for the most part (I do have some friends there, can't say the same for MSU). No doubt about that. I think State people are a little worse though.

Southern Miss: The Golden Eagles are simply on fire. They scored 30 runs in a doubleheader sweep at UTSA on Friday, winning 15-1 and 15-9. Leadoff man Dylan Burdeaux led the way, going 8-for-10 with five runs and five RBIs in the two games. Burdeaux and fellow stars Taylor Braley and Matt Wallner each homered in both games of the twin bill. Southern Miss already clinched the Conference USA regular-season title last week, but now it has stretched its winning streak to 14 games and climbed to No. 10 in the RPI. A 9-6 record against the top 50 is still a little light compared with some other national seed contenders, but Southern Miss might make up for it with momentum — a 14-game winning streak at this stage in the season is loud. And a 22-10 record against the top 100 is solid. If the Eagles keep it rolling into next week and make a deep run in the C-USA tournament, don’t be surprised if they elbow their way into national seed position.

Don't know if you were around when we useta play both of them every year in football, but "insufferable" would be a polite term.

State has not won an SEC title since 1941 (that's Pearl Harbor folks)...and OP has never won the West or played in the SEC championship....but it doesn't matter since they ARE IN THE SEC, AND YOU'RE NOT.

When we beat OP 38-8 and our cheerleaders went on the field with a "Upgrade USM's Schedule, Drop Ole Miss" banner, I swear it was bettah than sex!04-cheers
5/21 guess at the field of 64.

That leaves us with three teams in the mix for one national seed: Kentucky, Stanford and Southern Mississippi. You could also throw Virginia and Wake Forest in the mix, but those two should be considered long shots until they make some noise in the ACC tournament. Kentucky still has a very solid RPI of 7, but is three games under .500 against RPI Top 25, followed by an impressive 18-13 mark vs. RPI Top 50. Stanford has an RPI of 11 with an impressive 7-4 mark vs. RPI Top 25 and an 8-6 mark vs. RPI Top 50. The Cardinal also has a stellar mark against RPI Top 100 at 27-13. There’s also the Golden Eagles. While USM has no wins vs. RPI Top 25 teams, it was incredibly consistent and dominated a very solid conference. USM also has an 8-4 mark vs. RPI Top 50, a 22-10 mark vs. RPI Top 100 and an RPI of 10. Clearly, the race between these three teams for one spot is tight, and will be determined by next week’s conference tournament action and Stanford’s final series on the road against Washington State (105).
Need Stanford to lose that series.

Stanford hosts Washington at 3:00 pm today so maybe they can get started losing today. 03-shhhh
21-32 Texas Southern wins the SWAC. Would much rather get them instead of Mercer or Wright State.
You'll probably see them at the TCU or LSU regional.

Was hoping Alabama St would've won as we would've been a possible destination more so than Texas Southern.
Would not be surprised if MS State ends up out west as a 2 seed just like Ole Miss did just a few years ago. Send them to Long Beach......

Or Corvallis. Good luck with that.

I'd take this draw: 1) USM, 2) Auburn, 3) ULL, 4) Texas Southern. Tough regional, but winnable. Attendance would be good with Auburn and ULL. If we lose, seeing Auburn or ULL dog pile on the PTP infield would suck. But not nearly as bad as seeing OM or State do it.

Stanford wins in bottom of the 10th

Another score today should help us in the polls though...Cal St Fullerton who was about 5 spots or so ahead of us lost today which was the 2nd time this week they've lost to an unranked team.

From what i remember, it was #8 after the world series
Let me re-phrase the question, what's the highest we've ever been ranked in-season?

Q. In the recap on Saturday, it was stated that 7 national seeds are essentially set going in this final week. The final national seed spot comes down to 3 teams - Stanford, Kentucky and Southern Miss. Give us a breakdown of the situation...Stanford has the lowest RPI of the 3 but a much better resume than Southern Miss, but gets stuck with Washington State this weekend which does not help. Southern Miss is red hot so the current status of the team looks good albeit with no quality wins. And Kentucky will have a chance to take care of business with a good SEC tournament. Who is your leader in the clubhouse for that last national seed as we stand today? And who ends up with it come Monday?

A. I think you did a pretty good job cutting to the heart of it. I don't want to spoil the suspense for tomorrow's field of 64 projection (we've already recorded the nerdcast), so I'm not going to tell you who we settled on. But certainly I think we all believe that Southern Miss would be hard to deny if it can keep this winning streak going through the conference tournament -- an 18-game winning streak heading into selection monday would be awfully loud. And I don't expect the Wazzu series to crush Stanford in the RPI -- WSU is No. 103, with a roughly .500 overall record. Shouldn't have much of an effect, especially since those games are on the road.

Q. You mentioned 3 potential teams for national seed. If USM goes 4-0, what do they need the other two to do?

A. Brett -- If Southern Miss goes 4-0 and wins the conference tournament and Stanford and Kentucky both have strong weeks, boy, the committee has an incredibly difficult job to do because I think all three would have outstanding resumes to be a national seed. For now, in that scenario, I would probably lean USM for the simple fact it dominated both aspects of the season (regular and conference tournament).
