Shepherd To PSAC for 2019

It is official. Shepherd announced they are going to the PSAC.

I'd like to see the MEC and G-MAC swap some members to bring the Ohio schools to the G-Mac and send the WV schools to the MEC

Simmons College In Kentucky Plans To Build A Athletics Complex


This NCCAA HBCU in Kentucky added men and women's basketball in 2015/16 season with the help of former NBA star Jerry Eaves. They have been planning to add more sports. If they add more sports? I think they will fit nicely in the NAIA.

FSU is in the middle of its primary conference but that conference is losing two members. Meanwhile the football team as an affiliate of another conference that has to go to New Jersey 3 or 4 times a year for conference games. It will be better to spend a little extra on athletics and move to D2 and play almost all road games in West Virginia or stay and play all those football games in New Jersey and travel farther in other sports for OOC games to fill the open slots of former conference games. Frostburg is closer to half (5) of the MEC members (not including Shepherd and Virginia-Wise) than it is to its closest current conference mate (which is one of the two schools leaving) and their longest MEC trip is 299 miles compared to 312 currently. In football, there are 5 conference members in New Jersey with the shortest drive being 245 miles but only 2 trips longer than that in the MEC. It's swapping costs in travel for scholarships but the important thing is the students will be spending more time in the classroom. I actually did not know any of this until I was writing this post and doing the research but now I will have to say that it would be a huge benefit to Frostburg State to join the MEC.

Maybe they don’t want to join Division 2. Maybe they want to stay D3..

Your sources normally are opinion columns and lots of time from the student newspapers. Not exactly evidence supporting what you claim.

Yeah, Frostburg State is going to do what they want and nothing said here will decide for them.

Nice article but 1 professor questioning the move does not equal "pushback from several faculty members who wants there student athletes have no scholarship, and have them stay at D3." Your statement is very misleading since no other faculty was ever mentioned in the article.

Simmons College has a LONG way to go to achieve NAIA status.Very small.A lot of competition.Maybe someone who lives in Louisville can add some facts.Enrollment only about 200.

You are correct but not because of enrollment size. There are a few NAIA schools of that size, and if they expanded their athletics program they could quickly grow to 300-350 while at the same time strengthening their financials.

The big issue with Simmons related to the NAIA is that they aren't regionally accredited. They only have Bible school accreditation. They can't even apply to the NAIA until they are regionally accredited.

From what i read of the school. They used to have an athletics program. They dropped the sports it seems. Maybe they lost their accreditations, and slowly coming back out of the hole. The school seems to be one of the oldest. Established in 1879. If they get regional accreditation? They may go for NAIA. Good location to join the other Kentucky schools in the NAIA. One of the schools that is not a fake one like College of Faith and University of Faith. I was one of the people notified the legal department of the NAIA with a list of schools that they added to their banned list to not play.

This was discussed months ago on the D2 board with a new discussion currently in progress. That donor is in a very small minority and will have opposition by a major donor who supports football.

Due to "uncertainty" about the upcoming school year, they are granting written releases to all their athletes immediately. They make clear that this does not imply anything about whether they will be open in the fall.

I thought something was a little weird a few days ago. Bacone has no schedules posted for 2018-19 while other schools have schedules posted that include Bacone. On the day I was seeing this, the SAC (NAIA) site did not have Bacone listed as a member.

It's all weird. My recollection is that it's over only $2m in debt, which is not very much. It's mid June, and they can't seem to make up their minds if they'll open in the fall. The initial announcement was they would close, then a subsequent one that they hadn't made a decision yet, then a new President, then allegations of abuse at his former school, and now this. No one knows. It seems a generous and right thing to do to grant their athletes release, but if there's no athletes, then the enrollment will plummet, and there's less likelihood they'll be able to open.

Grambling State went scrambling because they did not think Bacone will have a team. Now, their feelings have been correct.
