We found out in 2015 if you don't have the right quarterback or backup quarterback that you can miss a bowl game. I want a good quarterback competition and Hoy seems like someone that could come in a be competitive. May the best quarterback win and the next best be ready to go in and get the job done.

Absolutely. I just wouldn't lose sleep if he signs elsewhere.
So EJ Jenkins is now committed to St. Francis of the NEC....

Well, that tells you what happened.
Not sold on Hoy being our savior at QB. I'd like for him to come in and compete with the QBs we have but like some have said I'm not losing sleep if he doesn't sign. He is a step behind the other QBs here, would only have about 3 months to learn the system, coaches and team before the season starts. He left Montana State because he didn't want to compete vs. upperclassmen Tyler Bruggman for the staring role. Hoy was the 2nd string QB during spring and was likely to stay that way as the only QBs were incoming freshman for the 2016 season.

From an older comment I seen with one of his relatives he wants to play for a higher profile school.

ODU being the highest profile school to offer so far, he has delayed a verbal commitment. IMOO I think he is looking for a school he doesn't have to compete to be the starter. He still has the option to return to Fullerton for one more season.
Could be right. May be waiting to see what last minute offers come up. He may be thinking "one more year at JC, I'll be starting there and maybe the next year I'll get a better offer."
At any rate his not committing to us by now seems like a message he's not real interested.
What a wild couple of thread pages

That might well be the case, but it could be he is waiting to commit at a time which is meaningful for himself. Michael Hueitt committed to basketball on his 18th. birthday for a personal reason. Perhaps he wants to be the exclamation point of the recruiting class.
Loosing sleep or not, I still like the way Hoy throws the ball on the run. Something that a quarterback at ODU needs to be able to do. It is a big move for him from California to Virginia.

This is exactly what I wanted to say but being new here and already critical on the Qbs in my earlier post I was hoping that someone would say it for me.
I think AimHigh has hit the nail directly on the head.

It will not be a cake walk for Hoy here. There are 4 very good qb's here now and 1 coming in from this recruiting class. I think ODU's starting Qb is on the roster already time will tell. Stop looking at stars and start looking at talent.

I am pretty sure Hoy is from Texas. He has done some traveling the past 2 yrs.
If Hoy decided to go to Coastal Carolina he would have to compete against a Gray Shirt transfer from Syracuse and 5 other Qbs on their roster. Hoy is going to have to compete for the starting job where ever he goes except for at Fullerton.

The last 3 signings will certainly push it up, but the transfer TE won't be in thaose rankings and that was a huge get.

No matter what the rankings are, I really like this class. I think we got some pieces in areas of need.

At this point, I couldn't care less about the kicker. I want a QB.

It would be a nice get but Im not convinced hes better than what we have already.

How could you be convinced of that? We want him in to challenge our current QB's, and if he's better, then he plays.

How am I not convinced he would be better than what we already have? He's a small QB playing in a crappy conference. Maybe he is better, but it's not like its a certainty that he's better than LaRussa or Arnold and company. Sure, bring him in and let him compete; just don't act like the season depends on him signing. (not saying you are)

No I am asking you what caused that response. Of course you wouldn't be sold right away on a JUCO qb. I don't think anybody is.
Ahhh, gotcha. My point was based on his level of competition and watching the little bit of highlight videos that are out there. Doesn't appear to be all that much different than Arnolds abilities. (again, based on limited tape and competition)

They are not exactly the same:

Hoy Arnold

40 time 4.52 4.74

Vertical 39 29

Bench Press 265 215

THose are things that A) may not even be accurate or B) Not all that important to me. What was Heinicke's 40 time and bench press?

Yes but right now he is in California.

Before California he played HS ball in Texas. Then to Montana St for a year of college before going to California for juco. I don't see travel as a problem for the young man.

As for having a qb that can throw on the run. What makes you think that any of the 4 currently on the roster can't?
