As to the reason why other G5 schools can't afford to adopt the full cost of attendance scholarship allotment. Marshall in particular.

Landon is a hack
This made me, 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao...
I don't disagree with anything in that article except student body size. The "problem" is indeed the AAC. The conference members are fully committed to doing whatever is necessary to keep up.....or at least from a public view perspective. We've got the same issues/challenges as every other G5 conference has, but we each have (on the average for public universities) larger student bodies over which to spread the cost. We're just not running out our front door crying "wolf".

Regarding student body size, Landon forgot that the USA database, which we've all used and perhaps he's just now discovered, only includes public universities. I believe that the AAC may have the smallest FBS playing student body in the NCAA in Tulsa.

Quote:The problem appears to be the American Athletic Conference. For some reason it still believes it could join the P5 cartel. So, the AAC definitely is going to fund the cost of attendance allotments.

But that's easier for the AAC because it's the biggest of the G5 leagues with an average enrollment of 38,747 among its eight public universities. The AAC has five of the six biggest schools in the G5, enrollment-wise....

Compare the student fees UCF reaps from its 60,810 enrollment compared to Marshall's at 12,350. That's why MU is falling farther and farther behind.

The USA Today database shows Marshall was in the black during 2006-2011 with a subsidy of only 45.5 percent. But in 2012-13, MU's athletic department was in deficit despite a heightened subsidy rate of 52.42 percent.

Nobody needs to ask that other Chuck named Schwab if the cost of attendance is a bad idea for the Group of Five, in general, and Marshall, in particular.

It's obvious.

The G5 is trying to live a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget.

It can't cash a reality check.

Marshall is so butthurt it's funny...
So the other four leagues can't find the funding and that's a problem because the AAC can?

Typical Landon
I don;t understand this:

"The problem appears to be the American Athletic Conference. For some reason it still believes it could join the P5 cartel. So, the AAC definitely is going to fund the cost of attendance allotments."

How is that a problem? It's the AAC's school business. I suppose it is a problem for the rest of the G5 because they will be at a disadvantage, but so what?
Regardless of how our Haith and Montgomery hires pan out, Tulsa faithful have been extremely pleased that our admin has made the financial commitments necessary to compete in our new league. We certainly have some challenges due to our size, but money is not going to be the factor that holds us back.

We've been unrolling a new Elevate campaign across the athletic department and Golden Hurricane Club as the fiscal year comes to a close and it's time for renewed and first time donations to kick in. It's certainly good timing with the bball success and the expectations for our new football staff...

These Marshall financial pieces have been weird.
I can't believe I clicked a Landon article. If the AAC can afford to do full cost of attendance that's their choice, and if Marshall can't that's theirs.
Actually Landon just made the case why Marshall absolutely does NOT belong in the AAC. Thank you, Mr. Landon.
I want to see the AAC and MWC separate themselves from the G5 label. C-USA, Sunbelt and Mid-American desperately want to keep up with us and promote the phrase G5 whenever possible. I understand we are not a P5 conference, but we are a lot closer to being a P5 than we are to the other 3 G5 conferences. In order to do this, MWC and the AAC need to get the NCAA to make the "G5" new years day birth only a p2(little p) competition, MWC or AAC. Promote the p2(little p) phrase to make a distinction between us and the other 3. (the p2 doesn't have to be the actual phrase, I am just saying we need to come up with a phrase to separate us from C-USA, Sunbelt and Mid-American.)
So according to this guy the problem isn't the system that brought us to this point, or that the P5 forced a separation, or that Marshall can't keep up. No the problem is that some of us can keep up and we're not in the dregs with this guy's school??? WOW can you say jealous?
Time for a new label for the aac and mwc. P5, G3, and the silver 2? S2?
This is hilarious. He has no problem that the P5 are doing cost of attendance because they can afford it. Then he has a problem with the AAC doing cost of attendance because they can afford it and other G5s can't. Why isn't he mad at the P5s for starting this? The AAC is supposed to eliminate themselves from contention in some show of solidarity with other G5 conferences? F that!

This isn't the first time the highest division of college football was effectively split into two. The last time it happened every team in this conference that was in a position to be in the higher division did so. The same is happening now.
And ECU actually signed a Home-Home deal with Marshall. 03-banghead

Wow, really don't like that idea.

Its just 2 games to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the plane crash. But I agree, I'd rather play ANYONE else.
So based on Landon, FBS is now this...........

P5
-------------------

AAC
-------------------

G4

I'm sure the administrators at each of the AAC schools have determined through very thorough research whether implementing the full cost of attendance is financially viable and have already determined where the funding will come from.

If there is a conference that can make a run at staying at the highest level of college football from the noncontract conferences, it's the American !!

Yeah we're all scratching our heads about that.

2020 in Greenville
2021 in Huntington

No need to schedule a series that far out, with Marshall.

I'm reluctantly ok with it just for that reason.
