I don't doubt that the American saying it will pay COA for all student athletes at all member schools will become an issue within the G5, but despite the bloggers claims, according to a newspaper article on February 15th, Marshall will be paying COA for ALL of its student athletes between $2700-3000 each.

The Herald-Dispatch Article did say however, the school was NOT sure how it would pay for it, some combination of private donations and ticket sales is expected.

From what I'm hearing, most schools (including us) will just tack on a surcharge to each ticket sold in football and basketball to cover the COA expense. This is where the "rubber meets the road" and will force a lot of schools to rethink staying FBS. A good number of G5 schools simply don't have the fan support to raise the amount of funds needed to support it and compete with other G5 schools. And remember.....the COA projection cost for each school will vary from school to school based on location.
Question on COA to anyone...

I understand this will vary from school to school based on location, (living expense, etc.). But can schools "sweeten the pot" too?

For example, let's say the COA at USC is $6,000....Southern Calif is expense place to live. Can USC then say, "Eh, we can afford to tack on another $2,000 'just because'. And so their new COA is $8,000 per student athlete? Or do the schools have to use some formula to show what COA is and why and then they have to stick with that number? anybody

This is where I think a problem will occur and things could get out of hand. I could see some schools using their location as a means of recruiting....In other words, coaches telling these kids "you come here and we will pay you more than that other school you are talking to"...and technically they probably can based on location/cost of living. The future of this (IMO) is a train-wreck just waiting to happen.

I agree with you on that one. COA in the mountain states, West Coast and East coast is much greater than in the south and Midwest. There will be variances in the AAC as well with COA with possible advantages for UCONN and Temple over Houston and Tulsa for example.

Sorry, but as certain as I am that Herd76 is a Marshall fan, I'm just as certain that you were referring to "Fatal Attraction" starring Glen Close....not Meryl Streep. Just claim it and move on. I just can't think of a Streep role that could cover up your mix up on that one....Sophie's Choice? Lol

Well, duh, of course I was. That was hard to figure out? So move on now that you found the prize in the Cracker Jack box to the good part, which was bashing Meryl Streep.

ok, remind me why we're bashing Streep again though? I don't like her either. I also don't like onions. I just don't get the correlation tiger bill! F it.... BTW, I like streep more than close. Streep was hot at one time at least in the deer hunter...close has never been hot.

The decision to bash Streep was arrived at after long and careful discussion, during which it was determined that bashing the clueless Marshall fan was no longer any fun because said Marshall fan had no clue he was being bashed. Therefore, the segue was made with the rabbit. Since I never look stuff up on Google before commenting, (which can lead to errors but is a lot more mentally enjoyable even with the mistakes that sometimes creep in), I transposed Streep for Close. The Bearcat fan chose to ignore the obvious mistake and elevate the conversation to a higher plane by going along with the bashing of Streep, because Streep deserves it so much. All kudos to Bearcats#1 for this good-natured elevation of the topic. The thread was then set up to find new heights of hilarity, until a certain poster dragged it back down with a pedantic observation about my transposition. That led to this this long explanation of the obvious.

I have no worry with ours. We have two studs that will battle it out in the spring. We might end up being better than we were last year.

So what schools were those two studs unable to get into, in order for them to end up at Marshall? Because there is no way those two guys chose to go to NQU unless they knew that they couldn't get into any other schools. It was either Marshall or JUCO for those guys.

I love hearing the butt-hurt coming from Eastern Carolina fans. Keep it coming!

Marshall wouldn't even have a football program if it wasn't for nonqualifiers. Seriously, you should be happy that Marshall is not in the AAC. It would be a complete disaster for both Marshall and the AAC, just like Marshall being in CUSA was a complete disaster. The good thing is that now that Marshall has been put into a right sized conference; your school is now able to compete as shown by the fact that your school won it's first championship. Now go and enjoy it, before the NCAA strips it away due to Marshall playing playing the same game with the nonqualifiers that USM has been playing.

That's exactly why they act like they're cool with C-trash.

Tulane University is known throughout the South, the nation, definitely in Latin America and across the world. It has an international reputation and referred in all parts of Latin America mainly because of its tropical medical school and archeological studies.

First of all, you better get used to the CUSA board, because Marshall is going to be in that conference for a long, long time.

Secondly, no one wants to be in the same conference as Marshall.

Finally, no one cares about Marshall.
