I mean seriously....playing an American conference schedule is not like playing an abundance of ACC teams like Va Tech, Florida State, NC State etc. Lets just be honest about it....Cinci is the only football school remaining in the American conference that has national appeal of being a traditional high end football program. The rest of you are no better than CUSA as evident by your OOC record. There is a reason that Cinci is scratching and clawing to get out of the American.

I really wish you were on the schedule so we could abuse you.

Be careful what you wish for. No doubt in my mind we would have taken you to the woodshed last year just like we did nearly every year you were in CUSA. And the polls agree.....ranking us higher than Memphis.

Nobody on our schedule could take us to the woodshed and Marshall sure as hell wouldn't

You barely beat a Houston team that "UTSA".. (One of CUSA's bottom teams) dismantled in Houston. Thats all that needs to be said about an overrated Memphis team. There is a reason that CBS didnt have Memphis ranked in the top 25 of its final polls.
Why are you so weak?
Get Memphis versus Marshall now

Here comes the Eastern Carolina fans! Speaking of Eastern Carolina, how good do you guys expect to be next year with a new quarterback?

The ECU fans have been here. You must have me on your ignore list. Figures since most of you Marshall fans couldn't handle the smack talk on your boards. As far as our new quarterback we expect great things from him. You might want to worry about yours.

I have no worry with ours. We have two studs that will battle it out in the spring. We might end up being better than we were last year.

So what schools were those two studs unable to get into, in order for them to end up at Marshall? Because there is no way those two guys chose to go to NQU unless they knew that they couldn't get into any other schools. It was either Marshall or JUCO for those guys.

Seriously, regardless of your argument, your big photo of Marshall as your sig looks like desperation for Marshall to be noticed. Are you really that impressed with a crap bowl win?

Thats not a pic from the bowl game. Its from the CUSA championship. I'll ask you....who wouldn't be happy with a Conference Championship, a bowl win and a top 25 finish to the season?

We won two Conf USA championships, do not think you will find many ECU posters with the cheesy type of picture you have. You are very impressed with yourself though, that is obvious.

You may very well be better next year. Unfortunately (just like this past year) no one will actually know how good Marshall is due to their abysmal scheduling...

Just think, they might even hold western kentucky to 57 next year.

Ah, another spring is almost upon us, and as with every spring, many members of the Marshall football team must report to Huntington Correctional for their probationary litter retrieval off I-64.

As a business owner, I have a very analytical, carefully calculated point of view on things that others may not have. For all you successful business owners out there, you can totally relate to what I'm saying. I work on a pros vs cons approach and methodically break down anything that could have significant impact on my business.

If I was in a position to make a decision on the question above, I would have to see firm numbers and projected future growth analysis before coming to final decision.

That being said, my "on the surface" answer to the question would be no. I just dont see the ROI for many years out (if ever) if such a move was made for new schools coming in. As in most all cases, there are a lot of moving parts in such a decision but I dont think a decision like this would be as easy as some of you make it out to be going forward.

I will say this....I can't fault any of those schools that made the "initial" jump when the conference was still known as the "Big East" and the "basketball only" schools were still there. No doubt that was the right move at that time. The ROI for those schools no doubt will receive dividends from the departures of schools like Louisville and others for several years to come. That being said, the American has a totally different makeup today than it did when it was still technically known as the Big East.

Personally I like CUSA's current lineup. I think it has a nice balance and is on an upward trend that can continue for many years. Assuming we all stick together.

not to sound bad, but I'm glad you think that way because we're not expanding.

Considering our NCAA credits covered our CUSA exit, it was an easy call for Memphis.

If ROI was the primary driver of college sports, many schools would drop sports altogether, and even the ones who make money could probably have a better ROI with other investments.

I think intangibles like pride, tradition, honor, competitivenes, and a whole gamut of emotions play a bigger role. Obviously, if a school can't afford to pursue something, it won't. I doubt seriously whether any school when offered a place in the Big East called in the accountants to determine whether the ROI would be better invested in shorting oil futures. They determined the cost, the benefits, and if they could afford it, sure, but not for a financial ROI.

On those intangible factors I mentioned, imho Marshall would be far better off in the AAC.
