(11-30-2014 10:48 PM)eaglewraith Wrote: [ -> ]I want to know why people think the clock wasn't stopping for ULM on their final drive. I watched it stop every time they went out of bounds or got a first down. I screamed for the ref to wind the clock quite a few times after the ball was spotted.

When ULM got a first down, they were just starting to move the chains when they started the clock. The ULM QB thought he would have a few seconds after the first down for them to move the chains but I'm not sure if they even stopped the clock at all. Just what I observed. You could see the clock running as the sideline chain crew started to move the chains, I could be wrong but if you want to know for sure, you can watch the replay and I know ych chou can see the clock and chain gang at the same time. I didn't review it.9

Another time it looked like the ULM guy landed clearly out of bound, I think his back hit totally in the white and the ref wound the clock.

If you're going by the clock on the TV, then that's your problem.

I watched every excruciating time it stopped on the scoreboard IN THE STADIUM.

I agree that the clock isn't supposed to start until the sticks are set, but that's actually a disadvantage to the defense. ULM's offense was trying to go warp speed and setting the ball for play that quick keeps the defense from getting set quick to match the offense. It's a symptom I've noticed from watching hurry up offenses since they came in style.

ULM did burn a lot of time at one point when forward progress was stopped in bounds before their player went out of bounds. They must have thought the clock was stopped because they burned a good bit of time before the next play.

First of all, this person asked a question and I told him what I observed, yes on the TV because I didn't have the luxury of being there. The one you mentioned where the QB must have thought they went out of bounds because he was just taking his time is the one I thought he was out of bounds also, but I only had a TV showing replays. I'm not sure if he was out of bounds but at the moment I thought he was. If you really want to know watch the replay. You will have a disadvantage though because the replay of the game is on TV if you have your computer connected to it.

I was just answering a question. No one can challenge the call

I was just saying that the clock on the score graphic can't be taken as true. The only clock that's accurate is the one in the stadium, or if that malfunctions, the time that the back judge keeps on the field. I've seen TV clocks get beyond screwed up.

My point is that the reality in the stadium didn't reflect what was on TV/ESPN3 if the clock there wasn't stopping.

I don't have to watch the replay to know that the clock was stopping when it was supposed to. The clock may have started running again quickly, but that's what hurry up offenses want, so it's a double edged sword.

It has nothing to do with watching any clocks but watching the ref give the signal to run the clock when it looked like the ULN receiver got out of bounds on a short pass to the right with 1:12 remaining. He caught the ball almost out of bounds and his momentum took him out of bounds and the ref gave the signal to run the clock. I think the ULM QB thought the clock was stopped because it looked like he was taking his time. I think he let about 20 something seconds run off the clock. Maybe the ref made
The correct call to keep the clock running. It doesn't matter now, I was just trying to answer your question. People please dont jump on me. No need to respond back. I was just trying to clear it up about the ref giving the signal, no watching clocks required
IdahoCajun, we're cool. If you thought I was jumping on you, I apologize. Not my intention at all. I've seen some misunderstanding of clock rules earlier this year and I was wondering if that was causing some confusion.

ULM was robbed of at least 2, possibly 3 plays due to piss poor officiating with the clock. All to make Karl happy that he picked Southern GaGa.

So what was wrong?

I mean there were bad calls on both sides, but what was bad specifically on their final drive?

There's no team in the FBS named U-LaLa. So good luck when you play whoever.

I always call GS, Georgia Southern and other conference schools by there approiate name. We been having to hear stupid names since 1999 since LSU had a law passed in 1984 that stipped us of our new name University of Louisiana. So I was issued a degree with University of Louisiana but had to be reissued a degree with the University of Southwestern Louisiana after the law was passed and our name changed back because of LSU paranoia and politics. if you are interested you can read about it here then you might understand why some people get upset when people call us stupid names. I personally think it's childish.

It's a really interesting article. Just trying to educate some of the new schools in the conference. You can call any childish name you wish. We sre definitely use to it. I just hate to see LSU succeed because this what they wanted, people calling us stupid names. Now the new teams are doing it.

Good read. Didn't know that. I would probably still use ULL/ULM just because I don't see how you can call one THE UofL when both have practically the same name (with different locations).

Nobody is asking to be called U of L, that's Louisville...Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, Louisiana, ragin Cajuns, Cajuns or UL for short is what we prefer to be called athletically.

You have University of Texas at Austin, Arlington, Dallas, San Antonio. Yet the one in Austin goes by Texas in Sports. You can do the same for alot of state, Arkansas, Tennessee, Wisconsin, etc

All have to go by the official name on all university correspondence but in sports the fans, students, and media can call it what they want. In Southern Louisiana the university is known as UL or Louisiana. ULM is happy as far as I know with the ULM brand, while UL's official logo is Louisiana Ragin Cajuns in sports. All uniforms and facilities have Louisiana.

LSU is not even part of the University of Louisiana system. The University of Louisiana system consists of more Universities than just UL and ULM. Louisiana Tech, McNeese, Grambling, Nichols St, Northwestern St, Southeastern Louisiana, and UNO along ULM and UL makes up the U of L system.
