I'd be selling that hard to recruits as well. Make sure they realize we are well positioned to win the AAC, which likely will give us a great chance to get to the access bowl, a much better chance than a mid-to-bottom P5 team that has pretty much no chance to win their league.

Best of luck to coach Hughes and hopefully it will work out. I'm wondering if this will lead to Tubs taking on a bigger role on defense. I'll reserve judgment until we see the results, but I thought we'd do better. Though who knows how much his hands may have been tied in the past at UConn, etc.

Agreed. My question is, will it REALLY be one of the access bowls, or will we continually play some team that does not want to be there.

I don't really care...we just need the paycheck from a good bowl
I doubt getting to an access bowl means any more money anyway. I imagine we have to share that money with the rest of the American.
We need to get out of this dookie of a conference, is what we need.

No, because then we are being too complacent. We have to criticize every move before any results are shown.

Try living in reality. I question one move of hiring the uconn dc and now it's made out to be criticizing every move. That's fine if you want to join the sheeple and not question anything...let's see how that works out for you.
Take it however you want, but Hughes is underwhelming at best. Trying to paint this as a solid hire simply ain't reality.
As underwhelming as his resume is, people arent even giving the guy a chance...

There's smoke but no fire. Until it's officially announced, no need for me to believe that he's the guy. The fact that he interviewed a while back and nothing hasn't been announced gives me hope that there are others that are going to get consideration. FWIW, Larry Johnson has decided to move on from Penn State. i don't know if the Bearcats can afford him but they should move on him if they can.

03-lmfao I had to read that twice to make sure I had not read it wrong.

[/quotCoach Larry Johnson is being hired at Ohio State. The odds of one of the best defensive line coaches in the country coming to UC was somewhere between slim and none. It was wishful thinking but I'm afraid your stuck with Hank Hughes.....there are no other names out there.

Why would you have read it wrong?

Gran is interviewing for the UAB job.
Man, I called that. Not that it is any big feat. If it is in the Sunbelt or C-USA, he is on autodial.
Jacksonville State Head Coach Bill Clark is the front runner for that job. Eddie Gran is very well respected but looks like he's staying for now unless Clark declines the position.
I'm sure Gran wants a head coaching job, but if I am him, I interview with UAB, but would absolutely not take that job. Talk about an awful situation. He'll have plenty of interest at Southern Schools.... and more time as OC will help.

Seriously, at this point UAB should consider disbanding their football program. It's just not equitable for them at this point, and they haven't been relevant...ever...
I agree. Gran should stick it out another year or two at UC. Winning at UAB is going to be an almost impossible feat. I think he could get some more solid coaching offers if he holds out for another couple of years.
So if Gran is gone should we be looking at a list of graduate assistants around the country with connections to Tuberville who might get promoted?
