that is the worst way to lose a no hitter you are so close
With 3 games remaining against the Cubbies, thought I'd take a quick look at our record vs. likely play off teams. Finishing with a sweep against Chicago would be nice.

AL

Texas - 0-3
Boston - 0-0
Detroit - 0-0
Oakland - 1-2

NL

ATL - 3-4
LAD - 3-4
CIN - 11-8
Pitt - 8-10
Question is, if we finish with nl best record, who will we play. We can't get Pitt or Cincy since it's same division. Also, team with best record now has to play first 2 on road, just stupid

You gotta be kidding me.

I hate a 5 game series anyway. Might as well play 3 or even 1.
Braves and Pirates clinched playoff spots at Wrigley. Now the Cubbies get to watch the Cardinals clinch the division. That's brutal, even for the Cubs.

Not sure if any of that is accurate. If the playoffs started today, Cincy and Pitt (same division) would play the wild card game. The team with the best record (Atlanta or St. Louis) plays the wild card game winner. The other team (Atlanta or St. Louis) plays L.A. The team with the best record hosts the first two games of a five game playoff (2-2-1). The championship series is still a 2-3-2 format.
You can play a team from your division now in the LDS. Yanks and O's did last season. They did the 2-3 format last season b/c of travel schedule or something. I'm sure it was another one of Selig's ideas in the long line of stupid things he's done. So glad he is leaving.
Atlanta has the tiebreaker over us if I'm not mistaken. They won the season series 4-3.

I saw a "if the playoffs started today" bracket at mlb.com where it said a possible Tampa Bay-Boston matchup in the ALDS so I think a Cards-Pirates or Reds matchup is certainly possible.Personally,I'd rather a division rival in the NLCS but we'll see what happens.
Craig out for first round (at least). Sucks for him.
Damn, Lance... 8 Ks in the first 3 innings.
six outs from the title
And that's a winner...

Ok cook, I must've missed that rule change. I just remembered a few years back we got stuck having to play the dodgers because of the divisional rule. We never do well going out west for the playoffs. At least not in my lifetime. Seem to do great vs Midwest and east coast. We can now let our pitching staff rest and hope for the best record so we can play Cincy or Pitt after they beat each other up these next few days.
Mujica?? Don't know what's wrong, but he's been steadily downhill. Today he was awful. This doesn't bode well for the playoffs.
Best record in the NL as of last night

And now as of Sunday the end of the season also.
Not just the NL but also tied for the best record in all of Baseball :).
Stupid Cubs. Hope it's at least another 105 years.
