It is because we have to pay your salary. THat and there is a virtual monopoly.

Virtual monopoly is *CRAP*... I have at least three high speed options and that is about average...

I have 1. Time warner and it's crap.

Where do you live? What's wrong?

Sunnyside in Queens. It actually started being better, but for the past 11 months i could expect anywhere from 1-8 down and around .3 up. the past couple weeks have been a lot better though. i'm getting between 8-12 down

About the same as us except for Germany. What is your point?

He's implying that the US gov is looking after the companies that create jobs as being somehow wrong.

I'm implying that corporate interests and citizen interests aren't anywhere near perfectly correlated. Do try to keep up, sport. You could start by trying to figure out what the first sentence means.

Good luck with that. That first sentence is going to be tough for him to understand.

11104. I do have other options, just not high speed ones. I can get hughes Net, but that's a joke. I can get verizon, but its slowest version. There are no legitimate high speed competitors

We need 100 Megabit for the telecommuting workforce.
We need 100 Megabit to push HSI and 1080p HD Television (and in the future 4K resolution television) and Digital Phone down the pipe to each household.
We need 100 Megabit to have meaningful offsite storage and backup for somebody putting more than spreadsheets and docs in the Cloud.

Wow. Just wow. Granted, the US is one giant crony corporatism orgy, but in Europe it is elevated to an art form. HSI is the exception to the rule.

Do you believe that government interests and citizen interests are anywhere near perfectly correlated?

The frequency with which you advocate increased government involvement as the solution to almost every problem would suggest that you do believe this, but I would like clarification on the specific point.

That means you have one cable option. There's always satellite, U-verse (if it's available there), Hulu, etc.

Ha. So you think the U.S. is on the verge of collapse like Greece, Italy, Spain, etc.?

Okay, there's still satellite, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon, etc.
You may have multiple high speed options, but they are still crap options compared to Europe. Having 10 ****** options isn't something to be happy about.

Queens, I'd kill for one of your pizzas, I'm originally from Fort Lee, NJ, Ever go to Hiram's or Callahan's? Anyway, were your speeds always slow or just at night? Might have bandwidth utilization issues due to too many users. From what you said it looks like they may have gotten that resolved. What speed are you paying for?

OMG, dude just read what I wrote. I do have access to Verizon, but only their slowest option, i.e. not high speed. U-verse isn't available in my zip code. satellite internet is like freakin dial up. Believe me, the only high speed option is Time Warner. There's no legitimate alternative

i don't eat pizza, so no i haven't been there.

it's hard to say how speeds were during the day, cuz I was at work. Definitely slowed down a lot at night though. But yeah, it definitely seems to be a lot better lately. Very odd

I'm paying for max 10 down and around .5 up. $50/month. I did a speed test last night and found it to be 12 down, which was amazing considering I went nearly a full year never seeing speeds like that

they're not choices. there's one high speed option. Neither RCN nor comcast are allowed to be in that area. that's not competition
Note that the mechanics by which one is provided only a single option in a service area will almost certainly involve governmental regulation.

I have no doubt that it's due to some ridiculous NYC regulation
