@Tennessee (AWAY)
VS. Penn State (HOME)

Just got word from a high source that NIU is working something out with Penn State to try and get them to play here at Huskie Stadium. I wonder if they will come here and then we will play there twice, just like Maryland. Anybody heard anything about this? If this is true that would be great for this program. Maybe Billy will be ready to kick some Paterno butt!!
If there is any truth to this, it would be amazing. It would be great to watch a big ten team at Huskie stadium.
that would definitely do a lot for the program, and maybe even get Huskie Stadium on ABC instead of ESPN, which would get to a bigger National Audience for people with no cable. I hope they do it, that would be awesome! Go Huskies 04-rock
That would be sick, except I don't see such a legendary team playing in Dekalb. Will Joe Pa still be coaching???
Looks like they have an opening in 2007:

I can't see any reason why Penn State would come to DeKalb. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one, it would have to be about a 3 or 4 for 1 deal with Penn State. Even then, I don't know why they'd do it.

But IF IF IF it would happen, that would mean an OOC schedule including Penn State, Iowa and Tennessee. Oh my! 04-jawdrop

I thought Maryland was just a home and home? They played here in 03, we played there in 04. Wasn't that it?
As wonderful as it would sound to have them come out here, I wouldn't count on it. National recognition and coverage is important to their program...plus, their fans that travel with them to away games are more in number than our stadium can actually hold TOTAL! If we do get the opportunity to play them, and they do consider us for their schedule, we just may have to play in State College...let's just hope we don't get hosed on tickets like Michigan did to us last year!

Much Fichigan!!! 04-chairshot
From what I understand NIU is also working on a un-named Florida School for 2007. I see that they already have FIU maybe they will get FAU too. I would rather see them pick up Penn State.
I find this very hard to believe. Its an economic thing. Why would PSU give up a home date of 100,000 which probably translates into a $15-20 mill payday. I think the only schools we can entice to DeKalb are schools who draw 50,000 or less. PSU will always have 7 home games, it just does not make economic sense. The only reason they paly at NU is because they have to every other year.

Talk about a tough schedule if that happens. 04-jawdrop No easy games.
I believe we play Tenn next season
The only way I see this happening is if @NIU actually means @Soldier Field.

Exactly what I was thinking. We have been trying to get Penn State to do a 2 for 1 with us for a long time and they keep saying our stadium is too small. Well, it's either that or they are scared because of the beatdown we put on them in Happy Valley.
We could put 10,000 seats in the south end zone in a heart beat. And from there -- there is no such thing as "too small." Look at the Cubs and Red Sox for example. Both their ball parks might be described as "too small. Both seat about 40,000 when- for may games they could sell 60,000 tickets. But they played there-- amd still do. The law of supply and demand dictates that if we can sell 60,000 tickets at average price of $25 per ticket, we can probably sell 30,000 tickets at average price of $50 per ticket. From a revenue stand point on tickets we would be the same. My point is, saying Huskie stadium is "too small" assumes a certain demand. However, the demand goes down as price goes up. All this means is you raise the ticket price for that game, and the demand goes down -- supply meets demand, and you make about twice as much as you would have with the riginal ticket prices.

Well, keep in mind that "too small" can just be an excuse. Also remember that PSU plays in front of over 100K fans at every home game. So even a 40K seat stadium could be deemed too small in their eyes so that they could have a good excuse for not wanting to play directly in your home stadium.

This was one of the few and far between times that I actually rooted for Toledo. That was a big win, even before the recent MAC big wins.
There's a BIG difference between Wrigley and Fenway holding 40,000 fans compared to Huskie Stadium holding 40,000 fans.

Wrigley and Fenway get 81 home dates every year, Huskie Stadium gets 5-7. BIG BIG difference.

Most baseball stadiums (especially the newer ones) only hold between 40,000-50,000.

Conversely, most new football stadiums (NFL) hold 75,000-90,000.
Maryland was not a 1 for 1. I believe we played that back in 1996 at College Park or something which was part of the package as it was a 2 for 1.
PennS in DeKalb IMO is unfathonable - ever.

PSU-NIU in Soldier Field = one small step for Huskiekind and a HUGE leap of faith or fantasy of anykind at this moment.
