Everyone of these guys loved the **** out of him until he took an upgrade in the B1G. It's just slighted boyfriend disease and bitterness. They will probably spend time watching Indiana football next year too, sadly.

Negative!

I congratulated Cig on this forum and on X for his service to our alma mater. My problem is with the arrogance he displayed throughout it all. He could have left with a bit more grace and humility.

THAT is the problem I have, which has nary a damned thing to do with "B1G" or being a "slighted boyfriend" or any other invective you care to spew towards those who have an issue with the WAY he left, not the fact that he left.

Also, not everyone "loved the **** out of the guy until he took an upgrade." There was plenty wrong with Cig, from having a stud offense, yet couldn't muster a running game, to clock management, to a stale, vanilla, one-page playbook, to bizarre play calls like third and goal from the two with a national championship in the balance.... and LOSING!

LOL oh okay.

I agree. Black-out is a hideous uniform. I miss the gold pants, purple jersey, gold lid from back in the day. I would love to see that come back for an occasional game.

Agree.

Concerning the “standard uniforms” there is a not-so-subtle genius/magic about using “JMU” on both sides of the team’s helmet. It’s instantly readable and understandable by viewers.

There’s nothing to confuse a viewer trying to understand what team is playing. The powerful, winning team wearing purple is J-M-U…you know, those new guys that are storming the FBS ranks…the program that is going hunting for serious national respect as a top ranked FBS team. Burn that J-M-U abbreviation into the collective FB crazed public’s consciousness is a masterful branding move…just like LSU or UCLA are established as instantly recognized college “brands”.

I agree with the consistent use of the JMU logo on our helmets, but I wish we could occasionally mix in this version of it:

Thought the purple helmets looked great with white jerseys.

I'm fine with people not doing research, but to me, it seems unfair to state something negative about someone as fact without at least doing a minimal amount to confirm it.

What you posted was a thank you to Bourne and Alger, not "JMU Nation" as the OP asked.

"I thank Jeff Bourne and President Jon Alger for that and for their tremendous support during our tenure here."

He said some nice things and said he "will miss JMU and have nothing but fond memories" which I believe is very true, but it isn't a thank you.

The most telling part of his statement that I took away was....

"This is really hard to leave, but sometimes you have to make hard decisions and get uncomfortable again to grow, and I'm too young to stop growing. This is a challenge, a big challenge, but I'm confident like all the other challenges I've had in my career as a head coach that we're going to open some eyes nationally and in the Big Ten Conference."

'Me, me, me! It was all about me!' I believe he is very right that he is going to miss JMU (get in line behind Rip, Alex, Everett, Mikey, and the Mick) and I believe he is very wrong if he thinks he is going to "open some eyes nationally and in the Big Ten Conference."

Don't get me wrong, I still like Cig and thanked him personally for his time at JMU and wished him the best in Indiana. But, that was then and this is now. His exit could have been a bit more graceful.

Bottom line: You just slammed other posters for something while posting a quote to prove they were right.

Well done!

From later in the same paragraph you quoted from:

"JMU is a special place in so many different ways. They're goin continue to have great success in the future. It will be a very attractive opportunity. I'll miss the players who are returning, the relationships we've formed, the people who love and care about JMU football, the donor base, the fans and the relationships that my wife Manette and I have developed in our time in Harrisonburg. This is really hard to leave, but sometimes you have to make hard decisions and get uncomfortable again to grow, and I'm too young to stop growing. This is a challenge, a big challenge, but I'm confident like all the other challenges I've had in my career as a head coach that we're going to open some eyes nationally and in the Big Ten Conference. I will miss JMU and have nothing but fond memories, and I know the history is great here and the people are even better. Go Dukes!"

I provided a link to the entire statement so anyone who wanted to could read it all and judge for themselves.

The original comment was that he hadn't said anything. He had. What he said might not have been sufficient (it fails to use the words "JMU Nation", for example), but that's a different argument.

Remember the hostage video goodbye Houston left while heading to ECU. 03-lmfao

Cig came into JMU with the arrogance of how he beat us in the 'Burg. Was annoying. Always brought up his relationship to Saban.

As I said - he walked the walk here so his arrogance became tolerable.

He's showing off his arrogance now, and it appears he embracing the IU fans/programs way more than he did while he was at JMU. I can think of many millions of reasons why that might be.

While I appreciate all Cig did, and understand why he left, I would not mind seeing him humbled next year.

Spot on. I remember his introductory presser and I was like, “This guy seems cocky, arrogant, and somewhat awkward but if can coach ball then I’m fine with this Faustian Bargain.”

Over time, my fan shades came on and was like, “I think he has gotten better, I like this guy”. Then I watched his Indiana presser and was like, “wow this sounds kinda like the JMU one” I rewatched it and he hasn’t changed a lick. Recycled many of the same “jokes”.

Cig did a lot for us and I was truly grateful. However, I think someone’s true colors show when they leave a place. The fact he really didn’t give us much, maybe a canned release from a spokesperson. I said this doesn’t seem right. How Bob has treated HC, this further confirmed the uneasiness of how he moved on despite so many platitudes. He kept saying how pretty we were but did his actions align?

I know some B1G fans that can’t wait to beat down Indiana next year. His little media tour has already created a lot of enemies for him in-conference. He might not want to log onto Twitter by next November after his Washington-Michigan State-OSU-Michigan-Purdue gauntlet.

After the sting of him leaving wore off, I watched it too. I agree... it sounded a LOT like ours. And just like ours, he rubbed salt in the wound about a loss that IU had (reminded me of the 'I was the one that beat JMU and ended their home streak' thing).
While Cignetti did acknowledge the JMU community, fans, players in the presser, I really did expect him to send a letter or a statement to the community. The reason: he has said so many nice things about JMU in the past. If we were truly the best job in his career and such a special place and everything else, a letter would have been nice.
That whole '90% IU and 10% bowl game' soured my feelings on Cignetti. This was a season that he built with his players and really thought he would have wanted to see the whole thing through and get a bowl win. Feels like a job not finished.
If we win, that win will not be credited to Cignetti. That win will 100% be on the players and Wrobo and the staff. Wrobo will have a better bowl record W/L than Cignetti.

Most of this thread come across like the stories told by the jilted BF.

God bless Cig. Many thanks for all you did for the JMU FB program, and by extension the university. Best of luck in the rest of your coaching career.

JMU has moved on now. The FB program’s future looks very briight under the direction of BC. Proof will be played out on the field, but I’m optimistic that even greater seasons are in JMU’s future.

And as Monty Python would say “…and now for something completely different…IT’S MBB BASKETBALL SEASON and the Dukes are RANKED and UNDEFEATED!!!”

Go Dukes!

Very unrealistic, he left for another job the timing sucks but he and his staff have a ton of work to do there. People keep bashing him for the stance on the bowl game and what percentage of his time he was going to allocate. Realistically it had to be 0%, but fairly certain that as he and Mr. Bourne were discussing his departure they discussed it and the obvious. I'm also fairly certain they agreed that to buy time on the coaching search. If he'd have bolted and right away said I'm gone and taking all of my staff with me there would've been questions about even accepting the bowl bid and considering this was our first and all that went into getting us there would have been devastating.
