Doesn’t matter now. We control our destiny. Beat UTSA and we are #3. Lose and we could be #5 if UAB beats ODU.

Perhaps this is a dumb question. Is there no scenario where you are #4?

We lose to UTSA on Saturday and have ODU beat UAB and we're the 4 seed I believe

Hmm. So if we throw the game, you'll either be put on the opposite side of the bracket or be forced to play an additional game.

If we can manage to beat UTSA on Saturday there will be a 3 way tie for 2nd with WKU, USM and UTSA all being 11-7 so not sure how that would play out.

As well, if we lose to UTSA while UAB beats ODU that would put USM and UAB tied and considering we split our 2 matchups I'm again not sure how that tiebreaker would play out.

Record against the group is the first tiebreaker in group tie, H2H in a two way tie. Record against top team (ODU) is the next tiebreaker in both and if it's still tied then work you way down the rankings.

In either case, Rice would get the #1 seed.

Doesn't seem fun for anyone even in top pod...We got a total of 1 TV game for something everyone said is drawing interest nationally. The issue is no one could find our games....WKU got a Sunday and Wed. night game which killed attendance....Looking at other attendance in top pods, seems like attendance was hurt everywhere, almost like no one could play in such short of time to be at the last two home games...To me its been a disaster and changed nothing...

ODU had 8215 on Wednesday. One of the better attended games this season. And against WKU there were 7324, which is close to the season average.

TV is atrocious. I don't even expect our games to be on TV anyway, streaming all the way.

Anyway, my problem with the pods is if Marshall wins on Saturday and Southern Miss loses, under the old format we would be the 4 seed and have a bye.

But nope, we're locked in at 6. And even worse, if I read what another poster discussed earlier, its constantly re-seeding. So we are locked in to consistently having to play the top teams even if there are upsets.

That's unnecesary if true.

I will say the conference really butchered the TV for the pods, that's for sure. When many of our "TV" platforms are actually streaming services, seems like it's a poor excuse to not be able to have a spot in place. ESPN+ doesn't need to have actual announcers there, a lot of times they just tap into the feed of the radio broadcast for the local team. So logistics isn't the issue. I would still take that over cusatv any day.

There might be a misunderstanding on my part, but the conference tournament doesn't re-seed as it progresses. Otherwise USM would've had to play the #2 team next in the tournament last year after upsetting MT.

I get the frustration on Marshall fans - but your team did have like a 4 game losing streak heading into pod play. I still like pods because it makes the regular games count for more. You are getting hurt by those losses during the conference games. Meanwhile, the teams in the 4 spot you would be passing had to play WKU, ODU, UTSA, etc again while you were playing UNT, F_U, La Tech. Sure there's not a huge difference this year but there's still a difference.

If your team cared so much about the bye, they should've taken care of business against UNT, Rice, and UAB before the pods began.

Pod play can help a little, but we really need to get it done in OOC play. Otherwise, we are just a bunch of 75-100 ranked teams beating up on each other and that won't move the need enough.

The problem with that statement is that Marshall - along with everyone else - would have played a different set of teams in the last 4 games of the regular season. There is no guarantee that Marshall, Southern Miss, or anyone else would have had the same results that they have had under the Pod system. Any team could have ended up with a better record depending on who they would have played otherwise. Any team could also have fared worse. We'll never know.

Ah yes, it was a troll/satire post by our favorite Rice fan (no kidding, I dig the guy [assuming it's a he]). Not to worry, there's no re-seeding, at least not until ghostofclt needs to reseed the lawn for spring.

Yes, it was 70% satire and 30% troll on my part.
You can count on me for 95% factual posting on here, the other 5% is usually so absurd that it’s pretty obviously satire. It was a troll thread that I started partly as a satire of some other recent troll threads (!)

I do some serious work on playoff possibilities and tiebreaker possibilities on here though.

Another thing I was absolutely serious about was my prediction of the resurgence of Rice Men’s Basketball.

I called Judy to make sure... there’s no reseeding.

However stay tuned I probably have one more troll thread on tournament seeding up my sleeve. For those of us serious fans... I’ll hide the code words “THIS IS ONLY A SATIRE” so y’all will know I’m kidding 03-wink
