We should be able to compete with Rice next season.

If Erica doesn’t go to med school Rice will also be better.

Correct. The only starter we lose is Iademarco, but we bring in a Top 50 nationally recruiting class, including a couple 4 stars.

CUSA women's basketball update
At Halftime today in Huntington, 10-0 Rice leads 8-2 Marshall by a score of 46-37.

Rice has led the entire way but it’s been closer than this most of the half.

Rice has already nearly matched our game points from last week’s 48-42 win against ODU. Today is just a different kind of game. Both teams shooting well, Rice an insane 78% though.

We could have five new starters next year, but I suspect our frosh PG will probably start next year.

2-guard will be McDonald's All-American Anastasia Hayes from ut-obKNOXiousville

4 will be another McD All-American Rellah Boothe, transfer from Texas
We will have a 6-5 center next year, a center with a chance to go to the WNBA

2 McDonald All-American nominees coming in as frosh

Our recruiting class ranked in Top 30, or so, in the nation

It should be a real barn-burner next year

Will be fun to have potentially two or more legit at-large candidates in conference next year. This year we are starting to play into ‘at-large’ territory but we don’t have any signature OOC wins early (when we were at less than full strength) so I’m not counting on that as a fall back.

Rice wins a dogfight at Marshall, 79-67.

Marshall seemingly wouldn’t quit and came back from down 16 (mid-Q3) to within 2 several times at end of Q3 and during the 4th.

Rice finished it on a 14-4 run though, for another big double digit road win.

Owls shot 68% for the game and scored 48(!) in the paint.

MTSU at ODU is another big one today. Tips off at 3pm ET in about a half hour.

When Rice cranks up the D, it's absolutely stifelling. Last game, we held ODU without a point the final 6 minutes of the game (save for one FT with 30 seconds left) and today, Marshall didn't score over a critical 4 minute stretch to close out the game.

Erica O. with her 13th double-double of the season: 21 points, 10 boards, 4 assists
Mulkey: 25 points (12-14 FG), 7 boards, 5 blocks
Wiggins: 15 points, 5 assists

Very happy with how Marshall played today.

If Rice hadn’t shot 78% in the first half and 68% for the game, Marshall could have won today.

On the flip side, if Marshall hadn’t played well, Rice would have won by 30.

It was an entertaining game to witness.

A couple upsets though today. Charlotte beats UAB, and UNT takes down WKU on the road.

Rice 11-0 is closing in on the regular season title and plays the bottom three teams in the standings in three of its final five regular season games. I really think the other teams are playing for seeding now at this point, and obviously the conference's automatic bid in the conference tournament. The Owls (20-3 overall) could be an at-large even if they don't win the tournament with an RPI of 34 and an unbeaten conference record. But I think they'll have to win out in the regular season for sure (otherwise, they have a bad loss on their resume), and probably at least 1 conference tournament win too.

With ODU winning this afternoon, Rice’s magic number to clinch the top seed is just 3.

The battle for the 2/3/4 spots and the other first round byes sure got tighter today, though.

And, note, due to the scheduling quirk,Rice played four of the other five top teams in the conference (UAB, MTSU, Marshall, ODU) on the road, and beat them all.

Well as of 3pm yesterday ODU was sitting 6th in the conference standings, and it could have been said that Rice played ALL four of the other top five teams on the road, including WKY (not ODU)

ODU and MTSU, however are among the three strongest teams IMO. ODU proved that yesterday afternoon(and for that matter, at Rice.)
