Too early to tell. Duke will play most of their games at home. They won't be undefeated after a few ACC games. They do not seem to have a low post game.

Love ya Luckey, but I can’t understand this take. Indeed time will tell, will reconvene in a few months.

Duke is great. The national tournament is often a crapshoot, but they can beat anyone. A post game isn’t really necessary in today’s game.

2nd half score: Duke 36 - EMU 33

About the best you can ask for with bench vs. bench, after that grizzly 1st half.

Oh well. I'm not gonna pull my hair out over this one. We got smacked, plain and simple. Hopefully we use this as motivation to get better as a team. Let's regroup and beat BU on Saturday.

They took it easy on us played a lot of the bench and as did we in the second half. I was hoping for 50 came close.

I agreed. It is how we play after this that sets the rest of the year. 07-coffee3

RE: EMU vs DUKE 11-14
The final was about what we expected.

EMU tries to hard to force the ball into the paint.

Toure would be great off the bench. Swap him for Groce in starting line up.

Duke is incredible. I'll be one of many picking them on my bracket.

How much did EMU get paid for this?

The reserves played better than the starters tonight. I agree, Toure needs to back up Thompson at the center position. Paul Jackson was nervous the entire game, almost all shots AND passes seemed to drop short of the target and he was flat footed on a few occasions as well.

Don’t worry, season is early. Keep working.

Ramy I cannot agree more! The season is early. At this time last year we were 4-0 having beaten the likes U-M Dearborn, Howard, Spring Arbor and Ark St and were feeling really great about ourselves before laying an egg in the first half of conference play.

Tonight we found out that our front court is slow afoot, we have no plan for 3/4 press, Toure is not as dominant when playing superior competition, etc... Can Murphy make the requisite adjustments is the real question. He now has the time.

Not ideal but this isnt indicative of the season. We were Angola playing against the Dream Team out there. Duke is a cheat code. The games that we should be contending with are TCU and Rutgers

Thanks EagleKing!

Ok let me explain: as Sam pointed out we stopped playing team ball after the first five minutes because we were not prepared, have no structured offense, and a defense that allowed close to 20 dunks. That is laughable!! We made Duke look very very good due to Murphy's system. I didn't get a chance to see Duke vs Kentucky but I am assuming Kentucky also starts freshman.

Duke may be a top 10-15 team but I am not sure they have a low post game that will be needed if a team is able to play them man to man or if Duke is shooting cold from outside. If Duke does have an inside game perhaps they get to the final four. Last year they were ranked #1 early and didn't make final 4.

EMU gave Duke close to 20 dunks I believe. We didn't make them beat us from outside because they got easy lob dunks. Can Duke shoot over a tough man to man defense? Can Duke score inside when they need a basket when their outside shots are not falling?

The answer may be yes to both of these questions but I did not see an inside game. Thus if a team can play Duke man to man and stay in front of them, I believe Duke could be exposed.

My pick to win the west in the early stages is Ball State. Whitford not much better than Murphy but he has a lot of talent too.

At ant rate this was a typical Murphy beating early in the season. Hopefully the boys come out with less intimidation when we play the next P5 school.

Go Eagles!!

A couple more points:
1. Luckey only likes Ball St because their coach knows how to break the zone so well.
2. JTIV played strong in the second half, and showed he could play with Duke caliber players. (Though, first half he struggled along with the rest of the team)
3. Groce was the only EMU player that I felt looked comfortable out there.
4. Duke was not just the more talented team. They by far OUT HUSTLED EMU as well. ???

Against Kentucky they scored 60 points in the paint, same as against us. They also shot 12/26 from 3 against UK. I think they will wear out even the best Man to Man teams. If you have the time Luckey go watch the replay of the UK game. It was something to behold.

RE: EMU vs DUKE 11-14
I have to admit the thought of going to Cameron was an 'once in a lifetime' (bucket list) event but this Duke team isn't the 1996 team EMU beat in the NCAAs.

I'm just not a fan of playing a team full of future NBA players.

I think once Duke blew out Kentucky it was like...

Quite frankly yesterday I was more excited by the new building in the north end zone and possibly improving the area of campus near the Ann Street lot.

Last night's game will soon be forgotten. Changes to campus will endure for many decades.

Why we lost:

I saw a 2019 mock NBA draft.

1. Barrett

3. Williamson

4. Reddish

"1, 3, 4, need I say more..." (like the jingle...?).

RE: EMU vs DUKE 11-14
Watched, Minnie had some great games against tough competition last year IU and Syracuse but didn't seem with it last night. The second half was better to watch our subs vs their subs. Glad the other players got some playing time and experience. Really like Groce, MacDoo and King did decent when out there. Parris has a sweet outside shot just needs to be more consistent. Will see team on Saturday. Agree Toure and JT4 on the floor at the same time isn't working and they don't have the speed to rotate in the 2-3 zone and aren't quick enough to close off in some cases. Let see how they do against TCU and Kansas. I would agree Duke is impressive.

A coworker of mine told me that EMU held a lead against Duke longer than any other opponent so far this year... 18 seconds.

That is something, right?!?!

Yeah, I remember: 2 - 0. I was hoping we'd rout Duke. 03-lmfao

Sometimes 18 seconds seems like a lifetime, but in hoops it ain't much...

Ramy, I am on board with points 2 & 3 completely, you know your basketball sir. As far as the hustle issue, I am not so sure. Our frontline is long but is not terribly athletic. Duke is so much faster that I think our slow foot speed can be misinterpreted as lack of hustle.
