RE: OK, let the speculation begin
Kind of fun being able to put down the qualifications for a fictitious applicant, isn't it?

Lol, apparently we need an applicant who is a D1 head coach that wins 20 a year and goes to the ncaa every year and take $300,000 a year.

Well, Tubby is available, I hear. But I doubt the $300M would work.

SWAC
MEAC
Atlantic Sun
Southland

Those are the four lowest-RPI conferences at the moment. (SBC is currently 18th.) One of the sad things about coach hirings is that most of us probably would look very negatively on hiring even a successful head coach from one of the bottom feeder conferences.

I'd definitely consider Mike Davis at Texas Southern. Salary 200K.

I would grab Davis in a heartbeat, but I would say that is unlikely to happen.

RE: OK, let the speculation begin
Davis got thrust into the Indiana job because of Knight's dismissal probably before he was ready for that job. However, after that he had four straight seasons of at least 22 wins at UAB. He is probably the premier coach in the SWAC, with two 20+ win seasons, which is really tough to do in that league.

If you want the Trojans back you need to lobby for Cinco Boone at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. Angelo State is where Chris Beard came from and Cinco was his assistant. They coach exactly the same....!!!!!

Would be the "right thing" to do.....!!!!!

Above is what Mr Basketball said in earlier post.

It's likely we'll get someone none of us have ever heard of. I'd love to get Mark Fox, Mike Davis, or Jon Scheyer. Very unlikely to happen. Would Derek want this job? I have no idea, but I don't know how you turn him down if he really wants it. Yes, it could hurt his legacy if he doesn't win, but if he is willing to take that risk he deserves the opportunity considering all he has done for our program. I would think the odds of taking another coach from San Angelo State are pretty low, but who knows. I doubt we'll hear any ridiculous rumors from Wally this week, at least, since he'll be kissing up to the hogs. No one associated with UA-Little Rock would tell Wally anything anyway.

San Angelo State finished 9-9 in their DII conference. No way Chasse hires a DII coach with a .500 conference record. There are plenty of DII coaches who had great records this year. A few of them would be very good DI coaches. The hard part is figuring out which ones.

WALLY HALL: Foley can definitely handle the NCAA game

If he is actually interested, no way he is not "considered". Doesn't mean he gets the job, but he would be awfully hard to turn down.

At this moment, I have absolutely no clue who might even be a possibility for the job.

Don't think he has his degree. Don't think he has college coaching experience.

You might be totally right that he is not even on the radar. I have no clue.

The list of potential candidates is almost endless. All the D1 assistants. D1 head coaches at a lower level. D1 head coaches out of work looking for another job. D2 head coaches. Even really good D3 and juco head coaches. NBA assistants. On and on.

The likelihood of one of us guessing the next coach, is probably similar to getting a perfect Sweet 16 bracket. Using the "Beard formula", I guess a coach with DI assistant experience and very successful DII head coaching experience might be what Chasse is looking for. Don't know of any of those off-hand. Hopefully, Chasse won't be quite as "successful" this time. Last thing we need is another one and done coach, as we hire our 3rd coach in 4 seasons

Yes, I would settle for only making the first round of the tournament and keeping the coach.

RE: OK, let the speculation begin
I don't think we need to expect the new guy to take us from 7 wins to 30 wins in one season. Part of the problem was coaching, but part of it was talent, also. He will need to patch a few holes to get us back up to competitive, and then let good recruiting take hold.
