RE: Michigan State basically Penn State
Penn State got away with something huge. This is markedly worse, and no iconic football coach to stand behind. Michigan State needs a reset.

Using the word, "hit" in a thread about sexual/psychological abuse is very poor word choice.

The "paper trail" at Penn State was thin and undeveloped. All that we "know" was hypothesized from a limited amount of information.
The "paper trail" at Michigan State is a 12-lane super highway.

It's a good step, but it shouldn't be the last step.
The president's letter is worth the read. Sanctimonious. Six paragraphs, and over half are about her. Heck, even has to talk about how hard the whole thing has been on her in the same sentence with the victims. Did you know she was already supposed to be out there because she announced she was retiring back in 2016, before this thing erupted? You did the school a favor, and needed to remind us publicly? Good riddance, Lou-lou.
And Breslin looks like he's a consistent guy. That response probably took no more than ten minutes to craft.
The wagon-circling is already on at that school.
With some time in higher ed, I am feeling more convinced faculty have no business running the universities of today. If you play the line of unawareness, you are clueless to operations (and in a major research university, there are thousands and thousands of functions happening daily) and the depth of this, it's because you don't want to hear about it, and shove it down the organizational bureaucracy to handle it; it's a structure and culture set by the top. Their problems, not yours...not "big picture stuff" to these leaders...except it very much is.

I think there's a couple things everyone can agree on.
1) What happened was horrific and there's absolutely no excuse than can be made for what happened and why it was never dealt with.
2) The punishment for those involved must be equivalent in severity to the crimes committed.
All that being said, I hope the NCAA doesn't decide to take this opportunity to make up for lost time and punish MSU beyond what is proper. As unfair (ie: lite) as many thought the punishments for PSU, UNC, and Baylor were, let's hope that the NCAA doesn't decide to thump it's chest and go heavier than necessary just to prove something.

Sounds like she knew about one complaint in 2014 and allowed the Title IX/police investigation against Nassar to take its course. She claims not to have seen the report.

What does anyone even expect from them? It's not like they're going to send their own people into the matter to find out information. They're going to scrimp and scrape off of self-reports, other investigations, and face-value conversations with the institution. Nothing they do (or wouldn't do) would surprise me at this point...you could get SMU or PSU-esque punishments, or the UNC or UMFL hackjob, anything based on nothing.
Them even being here already takes the spotlight off of the victims. Because, here we go again...let's make this about the athletic department culpability and not something that's already so much bigger. And that's already something that will help MSU get out of this...it's bigger than us. Pass the buck. F'n clowns.
This guy could do a better job than the NCAA at this point:

The president is getting paid $2mm over the next few years after not standing up against the worst molester in sports history. The university is going to get sued literally 100's of millions and the president walks away with a golden parachute. I really just don;t understand how business's deal with CEO's, they are so overvalued and the hole thing is disgusting. I believe the reason it happens is because the boards are all full of CEO types and they want to set the precedent. It pisses me off more than anything in business.
The last Tulane president left the school with a $20mm deficit and was awarded with a $1mm+ parachute and they named the road in front of the university after him. Stay classy.

Well, for starters...let's stop by calling non-profit educational institutions "businesses," and their leaders "CEO's." It's nothing against you...this is just a common disconnect too many people have with this stuff.
Maybe not at a place like a private school, but at the public school-level, people in their states need to stop the talk and force their representation to take action on keeping institutions and their leaders accountable.
And at a place like Michigan State, unlike Penn State, who could dodge and skip around the source of settlement payments coming from state taxpayer money, yes, all of you Michigan residents will probably shoulder this in some way. But you shouldn't...and what is it going to take for people to make sure you shouldn't ever?

it sounds like this could extend into football and basketball. Could we be seeing the end of Izzo and Dantonio? Would be remarkable.

Nonsense, a university president in todays landscape is a CEO. I should not have to explain how much they both have in common
