I'd rather have had true reform, bit this is a step in the right direction. GOP gets a win in Trump's first year, taxpayers all get to keep more of their money. Hopefully trump can get the GOP in order and push true tax reform through in the next couple years

in the complex economic/tax based system we ALL currently reside within, it has to staRt somewheRe....it is only then when one is able to begin refining and whittle as a TEAM to the desired outcome that will positively economically impact the largest possible percentage.....it's a six-sigma concept....
otherwise, just screw the USD and go Star Trekking w/o the advantages that long distant future tech affords in the hollywood=deadwood expanse of space that cannot survive based on 8 mind numbingly/damaging/wasted yeaRs....
if I'm still alive and that version ends up winning (line 1b)???? I'll take a selfie as I piss, poo, and puke on Roddenberry's utopian/conceptual socialistic grave on my way to #costa

so the idea is to let people now have more money in their pockets so their children and grandchildren can pay for it. Thanks GOP!
Funny, I never heard that from you as The Obama whitehouse was deficit spending more than all other presidencies combined.......but now it's important? What a surprise.

In what way can a tax cut fail? Programs objectives fail, taxes are tangible, not programs with objectives.

The Bush tax cuts were a failure. Remember that. It crashed the market.

And you bitched about the debt doubling under Obama exactly how many times?

1) make the corporate tax rate competitive (20-25%) so we don't bleed jobs.
2) get rid of AMT
3) get rid of phase outs like with itemized taxes (just a hidden higher marginal tax on middle class)
4) raise the floor for the estate tax (its not a priority to totally eliminate it as the House did)
5) Eliminate most of the special breaks on the AMT form
We got 1 and 3. Haven't heard enough to know about 4 and 5 yet.
Wasn’t the base line for the AMT raised pretty significantly though?
I recall when that was first put in place, snatched up a lot of people, not necessarily “rich”. Then it was raised to a point where it didn’t affect nearly as many people, I think that’s what they’ve done here as well.
No?
It still impacts a lot of people. Basically double income professional couples. For us, we had a lot of one time stock gains two years ago and it didn't impact us (but the Obamacare taxes were nasty). Last year, with none of the one time gains, it basically wiped out the benefit of our only preference item-state and local taxes. That, coupled with the higher standard deduction, are why eliminating state and local tax deductions isn't as big a deal as it is made out to be.
If you are in the top bracket, you have to really have massive preferences for it to make any impact. If you aren't in the top bracket, then that 28% AMT can make a difference.
Ah, Gotcha. Wasn’t really thinking about investment (stock) income, only wages.
Don’t get me wrong, 28% of a haircut on anything is simply state sponsored theft IMO.
All the more reason we need deep and very real across the board draining of the swamp, to the tune of 10+% annual for 2-3 yrs, at least.
All this talk about deficits, debt, taxes etc. We DONT have a taxing problem, we have a spending problem.
This bloated, unaccountable federal gubment gets plenty of money from us every year. Stop blowing it all...

But but but Obama tried to rob us of more of our own meager left over scraps to pay it.
