As for ECU's scheduling- Holland had connections and made great deals with schools. Compher scheduled poorly at Northern Illinois. He schedules poorly at ECU.
We are lucky that the American has schools like UCF, USF, Navy and Temple are part of the conference.
To be fair, the market has changed. Schools like Houston, Memphis, UCF, USF, ECU, etc... may be frozen out of scheduling local schools.
You are absolutely right. We are lucky to be in the AAC with UCF, UH, UC, UM, etc... Hopefully soon we will start being competitive again. In my opinion, scheduling will become more problematic for all members of the AAC. Our only hope is if playoff expands to 16 teams, with 10 conf champs and 6 at large. One can dream right?

ECU has been playing football since 1932.
ECU has been beating ACC teams since the 1970's. (We have won the last 3 in a row, and 4 of the last 6 games vs NC State.. as well as the last 2 in a row, and 3 of the last 7 games vs UNC... among other victories over VT, etc)
Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium seats 50,000+ and is very accommodating for even the largest of traveling fanbases.
For UNC and NC State to turn their noses up at an established in-state football program that has taken them to the woodshed several times over the years is ridiculous.
Charlotte has been playing football since 2013.
Charlotte's stadium seats 15,314. I have not seen any announcements regarding a planned expansion. (I could be wrong.)
Charlotte has played some in-state opponents:
Elon (1-1)
Gardner-Webb (1-1)
NC A&T (0-1)
NC Central (1-1)
Campbell (2-0)
It's not really a fair comparison at this point. Maybe by the time the game is actually played, things will look different. But right now, a 1 for 1 with Charlotte seems like yet another reason for our AD to be canned.
I feel like, in your post, you are speaking more for UNC and NC State than for ECU. I'd be interested to see what actual fans of those teams have to say on the matter, because I've heard PLENTY of comments supporting the idea that a game against us is a lose-lose for them.

South Florida, our conference mate, has owned ECU football in C-USA and the American. USF is a fairly new school to add football.
Whether a school is new or not is not the issue. Charlotte will not be a start-up when ECU plays them.

Yes or No: In week 6 last year, would an undefeated Houston still be ranked #6 if their week 1 win had been against Western Kentucky (best team in CUSA) instead of Oklahoma?
If Yes: No problem with the scheduling move

Uncc having a football team is a joke. A complete money grab and no chance for ever being more than a Cusa doormat. We will Be their super bowl.

Its going to get tough in the scheduling dept for ECU especially without someone awesome like Terry Holland who P5 schools like and respect
Didn't SC use to get 2 for 1's with ECU with 2 games in Columbia and 1 game in Charlotte, or 2 games with one in Columbia and one in Charlotte.
I believe it was 2-1-1. 2 in Columbia, 1 in Greenville, and 1 in Charlotte. Im sure ECU would love to continue this but that would be in SC's court.
That sounds right - thanks.

Well, we have uniforms and a few players. The coaches and many of the players are just paid actors.

It’s called “Paying It forward”
ECU gets games with UNC and NCSt.
I wish UH could get that kind of agreement with our past Confernece mates that are P5 besides just TT.

If this is replacing an FCS game I honestly don’t see why it is such a big deal. Would you rather get spanked by JMU again?? Charlotte is likely to be a lot different when this games is played. I think you should follow this model.
1 UNC or NC State rotating in some form annually
2 VA Tech, South Carolina or WVU rotating annually
3 regional G5 so Charlotte or someone else
4 old G5 rival like Southern Miss or Marshall
I mean you really need to hire an up and coming new coach and start winning again.

"ECU and Charlotte, two in-state programs which have distinctly different origins but share a common conference membership foundation, have agreed to a two-year home-and-home football series in 2024 and 2025 according to a joint announcement by both institutions Thursday.
The Pirates and 49ers will initially meet at Charlotte's Jerry Richardson Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024 before following with a contest at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Aug. 30, 2025."
Easy trip. Should be a win. Maybe ECU is targeting more of a 2 G5/2P5 OOC strategy going forward. I think thats been an effective blue print for the access bowl winners thus far.
Well, it's a 3 G5 / 1 P5 in 2024, and 2 G5 / 1 P5 in 2025 so far. Not looking good.
You’re right it’s looking fantastic! We’re finally getting away from murderers row and giving us a chance to get into the access bowl discussion. With our current schedule we are out of the discussion by week 3/4 unless we run the table which rarely happens with our OOC schedule.

(11-03-2017 07:51 AM)nobledictator1278 Wrote: This in my opinion sucks for ECU football. For the life of me I don't understand why we have fans that want to dumb down the schedule. There just is 0 benefit of getting wins over cupcakes especially being perceived as being a lesser conference. It does nothing to attract folks to the stadium. Its just a bad move....unless ECU doesn't really have any choices in the matter. With that said IF we have to do non P5 schools Id rather it be regional and not FCS.
The benefit is the highest ranked non power conference champion gets the access Bowl slot. You don’t get into that discussion going 0-4 or 1-3 OOC And 2-2 lessens the margin or error. 3-1 is the most ideal and 4-0 leads to a potential magical season. So the less risks you take the better. Every access bowl team has shown us the blueprint and yet we still have fans wondering why we want to go easier or begging to keep the muderers row.
AAC conference play is enough of a SOS boost so let’s actually have winning OOC Records for a change.

Yes because they were already polling high and were undefeated. They had the buzz from 2015 and once you’re in the top half it’s hard to drop down.
