ECU and UNCC agree to home and home...for some reason - CoastalJuan - 11-02-2017 01:00 PM

Another hit to the SOS.

"ECU and Charlotte, two in-state programs which have distinctly different origins but share a common conference membership foundation, have agreed to a two-year home-and-home football series in 2024 and 2025 according to a joint announcement by both institutions Thursday.

The Pirates and 49ers will initially meet at Charlotte's Jerry Richardson Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024 before following with a contest at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Aug. 30, 2025."

Easy trip. Should be a win. Maybe ECU is targeting more of a 2 G5/2P5 OOC strategy going forward. I think thats been an effective blue print for the access bowl winners thus far.

Future conference mates? Worked before.

The games are 7-8 years away, a little hard to predict SOS that far ahead.

Well, it's a 3 G5 / 1 P5 in 2024, and 2 G5 / 1 P5 in 2025 so far. Not looking good.

You guys just joined CUSA in 2015. I doubt you'll be in a different conference by then.

The point was that fans of both programs shouldn't be worried about SOS at this point.

Yep, hopefully neither of us suck this bad in 7-8 years.

You should always worry about SOS, and should be particularly worried about it...WHEN SCHEDULING!

Poor scheduling is part of the reason that an undefeated UCF is sitting at #18 behind four 2-loss teams.

Yes, Georgia Tech got cancelled, and that hurts. They knew, however, when they scheduled years ago that FIU could be undefeated outside of losing to UCF, and beating bad Florida or FSU teams would have still been more beneficial to their resume.

I see we are following the "Boise Model" of success. Sweet.

Unless you are scheduling 3-4 bluebloods in OOC, it's pretty much a crapshoot year to year. Far from a science.

False. Unless conference changes, a win over a 6-6 South Carolina > a win over an 11-1 Louisiana Tech. You can write that down...in pen.

I like Charlotte. I enjoyed watching them play basketball in CUSA 1.0.

Was hoping for a 2 for 1 here....

RE: ECU and UNCC agree to home and home...for some reason - b0ndsj0ns - 11-02-2017 02:59 PM

Playing them is fine. The problem is Compher hasn't signed a single P5 home and home since he's been AD. We've been getting by on the great deals Holland got, but Compher has landed nothing in that regard.

It wouldnt matter. WMU was undefeated and beat 2 P5's. They were still ranked 15th (3 whole spots better with 5 more wins) and were ranked behind a 4 loss Auburn. The committee is a monolithic P5 group that honestly believes no G5 can really be legit top 10 team. Its group think in an echo chamber. That "top 10 os the P5 only territory" mind set cant be overcome.

Damn it Houston. You guys were at #6 after beating one notable P5 team. This isn't the MAC Coog.

Memphis has been doing the same stuff. HHs with ULM, South Alabama, Georgia State, North Texas, etc.

You'll have G5 OOC games and for those, when they are years out, it is difficult to know how good the team will be. For those who are playing ECU this year, but scheduled the game years ago, I'm sure they had no idea they'd be playing this type ECU team.
