Incarnate Word looking at FBS but needing to cut their 23 sports
There has been rumors about Incarnate Word upgrading to FBS, but here it is in print. Tom Benson has been it's sugar daddy.

http://www.expressnews.com/sports/colleg...314416.php

Have long stated the WAC was going into Texas, and this seems like confirmation. The Sun Belt isnt taking UIW.

WAC FBS
NMSU
UTRGv
Incarnate Word
Sam Houston St
Lamar
SF Austin
MO st - fb only
Wichita St

The western WAC remains without fb.

Didn't need to subscribe but it was a long article where the AD said there was an FBS option but UIW needed to right size themselves first. Thats exactly what UND has done.

Why not have Idaho FB only or as a full sport member if this were to happen?

Because they are going FCS. Idaho is no longer a viable option as an FBS FB member.

Without evidence to the contrary (like actual quotes, or a free link) going to assume that once again NoDak either can't read or is being dishonest again.

Because Idaho, the Montanas, and EWU are joining to Summit to save it and making it fBS.

Im on a tablet which isn't working well. David's, you can quote an FBS statement.

For the lazy posters, just google UIW and FBS.

UIW has three FBs games scheduled for 2019, New Mexico, North Texas and UTSA.

That is extraordinary for a supposedly FcS school. A WAC schedule could fulfill the transition requirements.

Look at all these schools that have no business even thinking about going FBS trying to get there.

Thread title is accurate. Incarnate Word is thinking about FBS, in much the same way that UTSA was thinking about Big 12 membership when they started FBS. First post is a stretch. SEcond post, the AD doesn't say that.

Quote:UIW’s robust athletic lineup includes such so-called “marginal” or “nonspectator” sports as synchronized swimming and men’s and women’s fencing, which are sure to come under scrutiny as the school considers an athletic future that someday could include a move to the upper echelon of college football, the Division I-Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).[/quote

[quote]“We are attempting to take a collective breath after reaching Division I to see where we are at, see what we need to do to strengthen what we have and ensure it’s of the highest quality,” Jurenovich said.

“And that includes examining how we are going to plan for where we want to go, which very well may mean, OK, maybe we are going to have fewer sports, and without abandoning them, maybe move them into a club level.”-

...

“People have said, ‘Are we ever going to be in a bowl?’” Jurenovich said. “‘Do we leave the FCS and go into the bowl division?’ That’s a question we have to answer.”

I can answer that--no. They're never going to be in a bowl.

The New Mexico and North Texas games are in 2018. IT's not unheard of for an FCS schools to schedule two body bag games, especially if they're hard up for money.

If Incarnate Word does somehow make it to FBS, they'd be the first Division II school I'm aware of to make that jump. Have any other FCS callups spent any time in Division II?

Incarnate Word finished their DI transiton in the last calendar year. The NCAA recognizes them now as fully DI.

UIW plays Fresno St in 2018 and UNM, UNT, and UTSA in 2019.

Your wrong as usual, but that is nothing new.

Does this thread actually list it as a given that Wichita State will be FCS football? Ummm... Darron Boatright (Athletic Director) impromptu repeated "No football" three times in April during their announcement for the joining the American.

They (WSU) have attained what they wanted. I think football talk was just that --- for flexibility purposes (if needed) to depart the Missouri Valley.
