Great reward for the team, but that sucks for fan travel - not only the expense but it's also on Christmas Eve.
no it isn't...its on Friday 12/22
Must have been looking at last year.
was 12/23 (perhaps you were looking at the Hawaii Bowl)

I understand what you mean, but as a former player, I think I can say that these guys are going to want to go somewhere and win!! And I bet they would find it extremely "fun" to play in front of the largest crowd ever for a UAB game at Legion Field.
However, going to a bowl game somewhere else would be cool as well. We really don't have a say in it. We will be placed somewhere, and we'll have to accept it. I think our fanbase could sure use a game it can easily get to.

Let's just see how it works out.
Playing an SEC team at Legion might do wonders.
Playing a great team somewhere else could as well.

One nice benefit of making any bowl game that's often overlooked is the extra practice you get. Nice opportunity to get some younger guys more reps which can pay off in the following year.

Probably because attendance in the Bahamas is going to suck regardless of the team... with UAB, the tv ratings will be higher due to our story.
Bahamas bowl stadium is only 15k. UAB fans might actually pack that thing. Boca Bowl
is 30k , Id love to see UAB sell out the boca bowl.

Any bowl game becomes 2 hour free recruitment video provided you dont get blown out.

Yeah, some teams use bowl preparation almost like a mini spring camp.

Bowl prep allows a series of practices that would otherwise not be available, yes.
Bahamas Bowl would be great for the coaches and players, but a trip to the Bahamas and lodging is different from, say, a bowl in Louisiana. Money says we don't go the the Bahamas at Christmas, and I'm sure we would not be the only ones.

Yeah, my family is doing Disney between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so there will be no money for a Bahamas Bowl trip. Honestly, any other bowl is going to take some work, but I can probably make a trip to a bowl somewhere in the southeast happen.

Better hope we're not in the New Orleans Bowl on the 16th.
