Kudos to Akron. They are recruiting one of the most fertile grounds in the country: Akron. I'd be surprised if any other D1 university has a higher percentage of players from the city in which they are located, let alone on a per capita basis. As we've seen, grabbing that local, under recruited kid who is motivated, maybe still a bit underdeveloped and giving them four years can raise the average. Get a few more high end kids from where ever recruiting connections are solid and that can make for a good team. A long time coach. Seems a good strategy.
20 players from Akron and 30 from Florida.
Always amazed at the lack of success at Akron... Having one of the nicest stadiums in the MAC, fertile recruiting area, along with bringing in a name coach, hasn't panned out as well as expected ...

They didn't really stop our running game, we finished with almost 300 yards rushing if I recall and outgained them something like 475-200 in total yards. They won because they stopped us in the red zone. We only scored 1 time in our 4 trips down there. That is not a good percentage.

Given UT performance in red zone this year we should be concerned

Akron really didn't do that much to stop the Broncos. Total yardage shows that: 215 to 426, 14 first downs to 26. WMU botched 4 or 5 scoring opportunities. This game should have not been close.

Watched the game Sunday. Neither team really impressed me. Akron was lucky to win that game, they couldn't move the ball in the 2nd half. WMU shot themselves in the foot, every time they got in the red zone. I think we will beat Akron by 21 points.

Maybe just a slower process than expected. We were pretty fortunate for a quick turn around, remembering how far down the program had fallen.

God would you guys just please shut up! Do you realize the talent we've lured from that area? We don't need more competition. Take this to private.

lol, I hear ya, but I don't think it's a secret. Akron is just going deeper into the talent pool, giving kids that wouldn't be predicted to be immediate contributors, opportunities. Same we do on a MUCH more limited scale with Toledo talent, recent class excepted. The top talent is still up for grabs by the usual parties. We'll get our share of those that want to leave home but not too far. Akron is fortunate to be in that area but even though there might be a lot of competition for the top talent, those somewhat down the chain are going to come in with good work ethic and knowledge of the game. We have a few of those ourselves. Toledo just doesn't have the same density of that developable talent.

I highly doubt that any any comments made on this board will negatively impede Jason Candle's future efforts to pluck the next Kareem Hunt out of Akron/Cleveland's backyard ...
