RE: Would the Sun Belt take Southern Miss and La Tech to go to 12?
I believe that there may be a way to get exposure and that involves a collaborative approach from the G5 schools. Work together to get a package that involves a combination of regional coverage by conference along with a G5 game of the week that would be nationally televised. Let's face it, G5 teams have more of a regional than a national following, so the times of the regional coverage should be coordinated so that two or three games kick off at roughly the same time. This week we might have:
AAC: Memphis/Houston
CUSA: Marshall/MTSU
MAC: Akron/Toledo
MWC: Colorado State/New Mexico
SB: ULL/Arkansas State
GOTW: UCF/Navy
It is not perfect, but this approach does seem to have some merit.

They are a broadcast network, streaming network and on-demand network.
They have 57 actual TV stations in the nation. 20 Stations actually broadcast in our conference area. That means anyone with cable tv or an antenna can watch on their tv without internet.
Those that live outside those broadcast markets can still stream via the Stadium Website, Pluto.tv App, twitter, etc. Same as ESPN3 is now.
I don't see how someone could think only streaming on ESPN3 on the weekend plus 1 or 2 attendance killing weekday games each week is better.
Edit: here's the Stadium list of channels: https://23455-presscdn-pagely.netdna-ssl...arkets.pdf
But the whole point of being on tv is to get your school in front of as many eyeballs as possible. I think you vastly overestimate how many people still use antennas. The benefit of having all our games streamed on ESPN3 or having a few games on their tv broadcasts is that more people watch those. Some local schmuck who wants to watch sports isn’t going to hunt through 1000s of channels to find channel 0007 WTGX to watch La Tech play UAB. They’re just gonna turn it to ESPN and see what’s on. Same with the streaming app. More people have the ESPN app than whatever app they have that I’ve never heard of and more people are going to more likely to watch our games because of it. ESPN just has better broadcasts that reach more people nationwide that what CUSA.tv or Stadium public broadcasts offer.

You lost me at "G5 collaboration".

SBC has a few more years to figure out how to at least get 250K+ per school for a TV deal. I would like to see a clause in the next contract that limits the number of home game mid-week games to 1 per season per school. Those mid-weeks kill attendance and that is where we get most the money (besides student fees). I think it is inevitable that the 2 conferences do some sort of alignment to maximize attendance and fan interest. But I have a feeling there will be a couple schools left holding the short end of the stick. I'm hoping GS isn't one of them.
Before you poopoo all over the weeknight games on ESPN, do you realize which conference as playing a lot of those game 10-15 years ago??? It was CUSA, with TCU, Louisville, USF, UCF, Cinncinatti. Do you think it might be connected that those teams starting having success and moved to P5 and wanna be P5 conferences. Don't underestimate the ability to recruit when you are the only game one, nationally.
I wasn't 'poopoo'ing on mid-week games, but stating that at our level having 2-3 home games be weeknight really hurts attendance, ticket sales, and booster donations. Also, limiting the number of home games allows for other schools to get exposure as well. Of course sometimes that exposure is not going to help spread your brand or get recruits if you are putting a crap fest out on the field with no one in the stadium. Also, WE ARE NOT THE ONLY GAME ON! We can't even get on ESPN on the Tuesday or Wednesday games. Unless ESPN ponies up a lot more money, then GS needs to be limited to only 1 home weeknight game. Of course after this year we will be lucky to be put on TV for a while.

A lot to respond to so here goes:
1. I thought the whole point of conference reshuffling was to build more regional rivalries. Having a game broadcast throughout the whole conference area helps that. It allows bars in areas of alumni to show the games. Just because it's broadcast via OTA doesn't mean it has to be picked up with only antennas. Some cable packages include Stadium and as we've mentioned it's streamed like ESPN3 (so no different to the fans looking actually looking for the game)
2. "Some local schmuck who wants to watch sports isn’t going to hunt through 1000s of channels to find channel 0007 WTGX [sic] They’re just gonna turn it to ESPN and see what’s on. Same with the streaming app. " - Well same could be said for ESPN3. The vast majority is going to stick with streaming ESPN1/2/U rather than go through the 40/50 games happening on ESPN3 just for a casual game. Only the fans looking for it will watch it.
3. "ESPN just has better broadcasts" - The ESPN broadcasts are based on how the individual school has production set up. Since App brings in a team from Charlotte they could produce the same quality for Stadium. Also, I heard a LOT of stAte fans tell me that CBSSports did a better job with The Cure Bowl than ESPN did with theirs. ESPN isn't always best.
4. "But the whole point of being on tv is to get your school in front of as many eyeballs as possible" - I figured it would be getting in front of interested eyeballs rather than the amount. An App game streamed in California won't be as good as an App game broadcast in Wilmington NC or Asheville NC or Atlanta Georgia or Myrtle Beach, SC.
EDIT:
Also, let's not forget another huge reason to work a broadcast deal: Local Advertising Money.

When we are on ESPN2 or ESPNU I often see recruits tweeting during our game. Not so much on ESPN3 and I'm pretty sure it won't be so much on local tv or Pluto either.
