I highly doubt he was referring to republican/democrat issues.

I experienced similar things in junior high basketball. One guy on the team was the son of the president of the athletic boosters.

Funny story, in one practice I passed him the ball very normally. When he caught the pass he jammed his finger because he didn't use the proper technique to catch it. The coach then yelled at me for passing the ball too hard...I didn't.

I think the kind of politics he means are the kind that you cite. Seen that more than a few times. Just wondering if he was the beneficiary or the victim.

Apparently HS basketball tryout are solitary, nasty, brutish and short for some people.......

Hell the soccer travel teams are that way down here.

By politics I mean friendships not ideology. In reality, the coach could have picked any combination of the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th or 15th guy, none of us were going to play. #10,11,12 got to wear jerseys.

You fill so many spots with the best and brightest and then the rest of the spots are discretionary. Suing because you are the 13th guy and just missed the cut because you were better than #12 is ridiculous. If you wanted a guaranteed spot, you should have been #1-5, then you aren't at someone else's mercy. That's the life lesson that I got, don't be borderline or just good enough.

As someone that filled one of guaranteed spots #1-5, I think back at how truly awful #12 was, much less the ones that were actually cut. I wonder if they too thought it was "politics" that did them in.

It's okay, swag. If coach would have just gave you a shot, you guys would have been state champs, no doubt. No doubt in my mind.

That's exactly what I did. Took my talents to another sport (baseball) and won a state championship.

You understand my point. Were you going to win/loss any games because of #12 or 13? No.
