The game is clearly a chance for the AAC to make a statement against a quality Pac-12 program (although you could question our "quality" last season).
Last season we had a strong defense and skill on offense, but we were hampered by an offensive scheme that didn't fit our personnel. Our biggest weakness was our OL, but our new OC wanted to run a power running game offense anyway. It was a disaster. We couldn't run the ball against anyone. Then our star QB got hurt and the season collapsed.
This year we should again be a very good defensive team. The biggest question is still the offense. We have a new OC and new OL coach. Both coaches look great on paper, but we don't know what to expect.
We have one of the best QB's in the country. Josh Rosen will be playing on Sunday next year. But he is not mobile. I hear you guys blitz a lot. With our OL problems, the key to the game will probably whether he gets time to throw. I THINK THIS WILL DECIDE THE GAME.
Our receivers are talented, but we don't have a proven game-breaker. We think our RB's are good, but no one really produced last season.
Then we come to the OL. We lost the best lineman from a bad OL last season. We have new talent coming in and a new coach, but no one knows what to expect. If they take a step forward, we could be very good. If they don't, it will be a long season.
As far as I can tell, you have most of your offense back and they were very good last season. The matchup with our defense should be fun to watch.
I believe your defense has lost quite a bit in the secondary, which means your pass rush will be critical (as I mentioned above).
We have some familiarity with Norvell from his time as ASU, and he seems to be running similar schemes. They were tough to play against.
This will be my first visit to the South for a football game. I REALLY look forward to it.
High Class post here from a Bruin fan. What a relief it is to have someone come to our board with just real conversation about the matchup.
We are so accustomed to Smack talking SEC fans with no handle on reality.
I hope your family has a wonderful time in Memphis.
Must Do's while in town for the first time:
Got to tour Graceland

Looking at the schedule, I'd take a loss to UCLA, if it meant we were 5-1 over the first half of the season.
But, 6-0 is cool too.

RE: Looking ahead to the UCLA - Memphis matchup
I called the ticket office to buy 5 tics, was told they go on sale a week before game.
This makes no sense, this is a big game for us, the tickets should be on sale now
I'm bringing a decent group a thousand miles, they'd like to know where they're sitting, of course I can buy on stub hub, but I think it's better if Memphis sells the tics

We'd get busted without tics, I guess we don't have to worry, a big game like this and I'm sure there will be plenty of seats, u know to hot, might rain, to windy, one of my personal favorites to cold and don't forget the sec game u can't miss.
Many Tiger fans will stay home and continue bitching that we need to be in a better conference

I never will forget some fool here last season telling us that a big Ole Miss game cost us 5K in our attendance that night.

This game is HUGE! Big opportunity to open some eyes and earn respect on a national stage. Came close a couple of years ago in LA. Need to get the W this time.
