You think you can get away with this comment, but you forgot I spent 11 years living in the City of Minneapolis.

You harp constantly on how bad rich white people are and you yammer incessantly about diversity. Well, you know (but probably only one other poster here knows) that the $1M dollar homes in SW Minneapolis are being purchased by none other than white people, married, corporate jobs having 1% white people at that, and some of them send their kids to Southwest HS. Most of them send their kids to private schools like Blake and Breck and BSM. So that's a lot of the reason Southwest is rated highly - kids that have a strong family support system, come from wealthy safe neighborhoods. Sort of like, how do you say, in the suburbs!

For all your harping about how bad rich white people are, for you to use as an example of successful Minneapolis public school education the richest school in the city with the highest enrollment of white kids is...................... telling.

http://studentaccounting.mpls.k12.mn.us/...016_17.pdf

Why didn't you use some of the more "diverse" city neighborhoods and schools you champion? Why not share some performance numbers for Patrick Henry, or North, or Roosevelt? Give a little demographic diversity numbers for those schools, and some average home values as well?

You didn't because it destroys your argument that diversity is what makes the city a great place to raise a family and get a public education.

Never forget that I've spent more time living in the city than you've spent. I've had kids in Minneapolis public schools. I've had my house broken into. Lent a firearm to a neighbor who's wife was threatened by thugs.

You may get away with a lot around here with your specious claims but don't you dare try to pull the rug out from under people around here about some of the realities of living, having a family, and public education in the City of Minneapolis.

We are now exporting more middle class talent than we are importing and bodies like the metropolitan console (unelected bureaucrats) continue to try to social engineer the first ring suburbs out of existence.

It is worth noting that the history of how suburbs were social engineered into existence is somewhat sordid...

It is worth noting that.... It's also worth noting that a wrong 80 years ago does not justify a wrong today.

Not only that it proves the point that the cities suck if you can't afford a million dollar house.... I make pretty good money, my wife does not work. But even if she had a job, and even if she made as much as me dropping a million on a house would be out of our price range.

If you want nice homes, safe neighborhoods, and good schools you either need to be very, very rich.... Or move to the suburbs where (1) middle class people can buy a home and (2) working class people can rent apartments.

Therefore, the answer is to abolish all organization, zoning, and regulation of land use in the country??

Yeesh

You don't know that, it's just a guess. It could be a correct guess, but absent the data, it's only a guess.

PS - what did you mean by "having 1% white people at that" ??

Again, this might be true, but you don't know it. Just another guess, absent the data.

So you're admitting that I just won the discussion?? Bull claimed that inner cities, such as Mpls and STP, are universally striken with violent crime and poor schools. Which was a silly, absurd statement, that I have proven false with the example of SW Mpls.

SW is a considerably diverse high school. Same with Washburn, the other HS serving SW Mpls. Neither have student body demographics with higher than 55% white students. What are the numbers for Edina, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Wayzata?? 03-idea

I have never claimed that diversity is the thing that causes a city to be a great place to raise a family or get a public education. I've only said that diversity is a good thing.

Why are you assuming that?

Why are you assuming that I haven't, or that I haven't mentored kids in MPS?

I have never dismissed this history. Unfortunate, but certainly not impossible occurrences in the suburbs or even exurbs.

I did no such thing. Bull is the one who made a ridiculous claim, and I corrected it.

More absurd, silly claims. Homes in SW Mpls are available for far less than $1M.

*poof* there goes that one, too.
