Minnesota agrees to make driver's licences RealID compliant -- last state to comply
http://www.startribune.com/compromise-on...422788024/

Quote:Gov. Mark Dayton on Thursday signed the bill to bring Minnesota driver’s licenses in line with upgraded federal security standards, finally ensuring that Minnesotans won’t have to use passports to get through airport security.

The Minnesota House voted 120-11 on Wednesday to bring the state into compliance with the federal Real ID law; the Senate followed suit later in the evening with a 57-8 vote. It will allow Minnesota to follow the other 49 U.S. states in moving to upgrade their licensing systems.

“We really are last in the country, and today’s vote on the House floor and the expected vote on the Senate floor this evening and the governor’s signature will get us in line so we are no longer an outlier on this issue,” said Rep. Dennis Smith, R-Maple Grove, the author of the Real ID bill.

HOWEVER, the state will also continue to issue a non-compliant version of the license! That means people who don't meet the more stringent RealID background requirements can still be licenced to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Minnesota!

COGS02-13-bananaCOGS02-13-bananaCOGS

Quote:After that point, Minnesotans will have options: a Real ID license that will allow for access to airports, military facilities and federal buildings, or a standard license, which won’t be valid for air travel or entrance to military or federal buildings.

sounds like a way to increase fee's the average Joe has to pay

I know you were paying $20 everytime you renewed your license, but now you have to get this "new" version which will cost $30 if you want it to be good for anything other than driving a car.

Well in MN, once the law goes into affect by next year, both the standard (Real ID compliant) and the non-compliant version of the license will cost the same.

Currently, the standard license is non-compliant but you can purchase an "enhanced" version for a $15 upcharge.

They have to find a way to tax low to middle income workers more. All of the wealthy people are leaving the state due to their ass-backwards tax policies.

What does employment numbers have to do with the wealthy leaving the state?

In either case, you're wrong. http://www.sd49gop.com/minnesota_s_great..._migration
Quote:Minnesotans that have left or are in the process of leaving represent approximately half of the state’s top-tier tax population of 25,806 households. These households provided the state with 26 percent of its total individual income tax revenues in 2012.

Twin Cities Business found there will likely be some individuals with top-tier taxable income moving into the state in 2017, but it would take nearly $15 billion in such inflow to offset the exodus that’s occurring.

Thank you for the info.
Will you also provide the info when the charges are raised on the REAL ID but not the non REAL ID

State's population is growing, and employment is growing.

So I can't be wrong. Only anti-tax idealists are wrong.

So a MN Senator doesn't know what he is talking about but you do. Gotcha. Let's file this with your other bull**** posts.

Population and employment can both increase while wealthy individuals leave the state. So sad that you can't understand that simple fact.

Minnesota aka Little Mogadishu is a terrible state, probably 2nd worst in the country only to Commiefornia. Their one company is in full on collapse, because of SJW pandering nonsense. I'd have no problem whatsoever exporting that train wreck of a state to Canada.

But then the Vikings would never win the Super Bowl!

The real Vikings are turning around in their graves to think how they've been slandered in PC land by Pussyhatters.

Minn only has one company??

Funny thing is that Kronke just dissed Somalia, which is the posterchild for his anarcho-capitalist views! Whoops!

Name another that will be around in 10 years. That prerequisite excludes Best Buy, which will be put out of business by then by Amazon. Worthless state.

Also, calling it Little Mogadishu isn't a name I coined and isn't a diss, it's a fact.

Minnesota is a really lovey state, Minneapolis is a terrible city that you couldn't pay me to live in but the burbs are nice and there are parts of saint paul which are fantastic.

Economically the twin cities have more fortune 500 companies per-capita than just about anywhere in the country.

But you are correct in that the state's moving the wrong way. We are now exporting more middle class talent than we are importing and bodies like the metropolitan console (unelected bureaucrats) continue to try to social engineer the first ring suburbs out of existence.

MN Fortune 500 companies

6: UnitedHealth Group (up from 14; 2016 revenues of $157.1 billion)
38: Target (down from 36, $73.8)
71: Best Buy (up from 72, $39.7)
84: CHS (down from 69, $34.6)
93: 3M (up from 98, $30.3)
131: U.S. Bancorp (up from 138, $21.5)
160: Supervalu (up from 164, $17.8)
161: General Mills (up from 171, $17.6)
206: Ecolab (up from 213, $13.5)
208: C.H. Robinson Worldwide (up from 225, $13.5)
215: Land O’Lakes (down from 203, $13.20)
232: Ameriprise Financial (up from 247, $12.2)
257: Xcel Energy (down from 255, $11)
304: Hormel Foods (up from 310, $9.3)
316: Mosaic (up from 320, $8.9)
318: Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (up from 333, $8.8)
465: St. Jude Medical (up from 466, $5.5)

Of these, my guess is the following will not be around in the future as they are bought out (but I don't know if ten years is the deadline)

Target - tough retail environment
General Mills and Ecolab- already M&A targets
St. Jude - acquired by Abbott Laboratories in Jan 2017
