It will be a better win if we destroy them, hopefully with a great QB holding the reins.

With opening of the JMU mention, I've been bantering with JMU posters on their board comparing the status of remaining FCS, and playing for the CAA championship, and going to the FCS playoffs, and playing for a FCS championship vs. being an indy like LU with all the short comings and disadvantages of a non conference affiliation. I thought more would have endorsed FBS but that is not the case.

That's because there is nothing to figure out. It is a really good deal all the way around. If they can get that amount or more then ODU should open every season at Liberty.
Seems that this game alone should cover the football team's expenses for the game and also the full cost of attendance stipend for the athletic programs at ODU for that year. I believe that figure to be around $800,000 per year if I am remembering it correctly.

Let's play there a few more times and finish our stadium.
If we can't use our own students fees, we'll use someone else's.

Congrats to ODU for the nice payday. It is worth a premium for LU to have a program, particularly an in-state program, play it's first FBS home game.

2 hour drive, great stadium at Liberty, stay at Craddock Terry with the family after hanging at Waterstone Pizza on the river. Also, the 1.32MM is even better considering this is a bus ride game, not a flight. ODU needs to be creative to address funding, and this was a great opportunity.
I'm so down with this.

RE: ODU will open 2018 Football at Liberty
Im not happy about taking a pay game at LU with no return, but for $1.3 million I can see why we did it. I hope ODU is guaranteed a certain number of tickets. I'd rather see this game than the VT game. Should be a more even match up.
On another note, this shows the disadvantage of being a G5 school at the state level. One would think a state would want it's universities to compete and represent well, but if the privates can throw around this kind of money while the Cox bill reduces funding for publics, we may find its the privates that rise to the top of the G5. Gotta love their vision and ability to get things done over there at LU.

In the future we should schedule this for rivalry weekend and make it bigger than Tech - UVA. Wise move for ODU. If Liberty stays on tract and becomes a Protestant version of Notre Dame it's a win win.

I take back all that I said about this game. Wood and Bruce really bent the folks at Liberty over the negotiating table, huh? Good job, AD!

RE: ODU will open 2018 Football at Liberty
With all this money they're throwing around, Liberty has effectively ruined any hope of joining a conference. Why would ODU want them in CUSA when it can get 7 figures instead.
Sorry, Liberty on the menu isn't very appetizing. Were there any P5's available this late?

The Flames are paying the Monarchs a $1.32-million guarantee, a sum that McCaw said came from a “very large guarantee from a Power 5 school” later in the 2018 season.
Liberty plays at Auburn, of the Southeastern Conference, on Nov. 17.

RE: ODU will open 2018 Football at Liberty
I'm not a fan of Liberty U or their political or other views, but this is a football game. My kid isn't thinking of going there. My first thought was, "Why would we go there? Why wouldn't they come to us?" But, I realized as independents, especially transitioning up, schedule filling is going to be very hard and they HAVE to have a certain number of home games. I figured it was for a big paycheck, especially when it meant rescheduling UVA. I would not have guessed it was this big. I was thinking maybe it could reach $700K. I thought a million would be a reach. $1.32 million? Take the money and run, I say. It is scary that they have this kind of cash to throw around and since they hired Baylor's former AD, who should rot in hell with Art Briles, I'm frightened of what they might do with that kind of cash behind them and an amoral slug for an AD, but they have it, we need it. Can we open there this year, too?

I'm up for the pony, however, if you know much about ponies, it probably wouldn't take all that long for it to use up the entire $1.32 million.
