By the way, North Carolina played at Tulane this year.

Dude you are one uninformed poster. It's much better but still Nowhere close. The ACC is just plain stacked, period.

Add WKU, MTU, Marshall, and Rice and break into quads, or, add UMass and Army and split North/South. The former for Cincy ease-of-travel and the private schools. The latter creates a nice group of 6 teams along the eastern seaboard.

We talk about Wichita here and the extra bids they'll generate but its going to help recruiting across the conference.

The jury is still out on the ECU's, Tulane's and UCF's on how good they can be in basketball because they've only spent 3 years in a high resource basketball conference.

Another 5 years or so they could have their act together, IMO.

ECU and Tulane were in CUSA when it was 4 and 5 bid conference. It's time for us to step it up.

Not sure WSU ever decided to field a football team, did they? I know they were researching it, but never heard if they plan to move ahead,or shelve the idea. Maybe a Shocker fan can chime in?

They did, indeed, seem to be looking at whether starting a football team would be a necessary step to escaping the MVC ...

... but since lack of an FBS football team did not prevent them from escaping the MVC to the AAC ... why exactly would they want to do that now?

The university president and AD haven't come out and officially declared football dead, but discussions were tabled. Safe to say it's probably not happening now, with the move to the AAC on the horizon.

Striking distance can be however far away as what you define it.

The AAC is nowhere near one of the P5 (FB) or P6 (BB) in quality except in Little Mike's dreams. In fact, they're slipping farther into the P5-G5 divide.

The president absolutely wants football. He hasn't been shy about that. But he has also said it's not just his decision and if it's done it'll be done right. He's also said from early on that the conference affiliation will be settled before any football decision is made.

The president doesn't see football as only a way to get out of the MVC. It was one reason we were looking into it, but it wasn't the only reason. He's working hard to grow the campus and enrollment and sees football as something that would give all of that a boost. It's believe that it would help with recruiting and retaining students. He also believe it would help with recruitment in OK and TX. He's also trying to create a better student experience.

Basically, even with a move to the AAC, Bardo is going to do all he can to bring football back. That doesn't guarantee it'll happen, but it is his goal.

We've never seen a year in basketball where they've all fired at the same time. This year they were #7 despite having 31 losses by 5 points or less in OOC games- without Wichita. They win even 1/2 of those, and they're right there with the Pac 12 and SEC in basketball.

Great move for WSU. And one component people are missing is the travel is probably BETTER for WSU in the AAC.

They will play a 12 game basketball schedule with two divisions - meaning a home and home with a collection of AAC schools that are the same distance or CLOSER than many of the Valley schools:
Tulsa - CLOSER
SMU, Houston, Tulane, Memphis - about the same as N IA, Drake, S Ill, etc.

So they take three trips a year to Cinci or E Carolina or Florida...

They play at least 5 games against better competition than the Valley offers...

SAGARINS - AAC
19 SMU
20 Cincinnati
52 Houston
71 Central Florida(UCF)
81 Connecticut
85 Memphis
106 Temple
132 Tulsa
175 East Carolina
238 Tulane
274 South Florida

MISS VALLEY
11 Wichita State
54 Illinois State
107 Loyola-Chicago
123 Missouri State
137 Northern Iowa
145 Southern Illinois
155 Evansville
185 Indiana State
209 Bradley
254 Drake

It's not going to be pure divisions. It's going to be 1 12 team conference. 9 home and 9 away. So for instance they likely won't play Tulane 2x.

This is no windfall for the AAC. WSU is bringing an averages 2 NCAAT credits/year and no football. The AAC has been down the last couple of years but they normally average double digits. With no football, would the media contract bump be enough to offset that? I'm guessing the break even point would be somewhere around $500k.

well 2 NCAA units per year over 6 years is over 1.5 million dollars just in of itself- not to mention with them in helping make schools like Cincy and SMU instead of avoiding 2 bad games getting to avoid 4 bad games a year- thus helping seeds out somewhat for them. It's a no brainer for both the AAC and Wichita.

I think that's about right.

I think a couple of times in the brief history of the American, teams have been hurt by not having enough games against high RPI teams. Houston and UCF this year, Temple a few years back, SMU the first year. I'm not saying all of these schools would have made the tournament with a couple of games vs Wichita State, but it would have helped.

I think any extra TV money we get out of this is gravy, but the addition of WSU should help with credits, perception, and ticket sales.

Scheduling has to be worth something. Someone is off or play an OOC game with odd number conferences. It's doable, but a headache.
