Weird facts:

Neither Gonzaga nor South Carolina has ever even been to a Final Four before, yet one of them will be playing for the national championship. Prior to this year, the Gamecocks had never gotten past the Sweet Sixteen.

Both North Carolina and Oregon have won a title, although for the Ducks you have to go all the way back to the very first tournament in 1939!

It would be real interesting for

Gonzaga to do it.

to have a NC vs. SC battle and since when in either state both schools get called Carolina...

A North Carolina-South Carolina title game would be cool, it's an underrated state rivalry. Oregon-Gonzaga would also be cool but nothing else has the sizzle except maybe Carolina and Gonzaga.

I have to agree, a Gonzaga vs North Carolina championship is the most sexy national championship match up IMO

Gotta think North Carolina is the overwhelming favorite to win now. They've escaped by the skin of their teeth twice so far, there won't be a need for a third time.

The UConn women need to go to the WNBA.

Exactly where I stand. Gonzaga-Oregon, North Carolina-South Carolina, or bust. When I think of two states synonymous with each other, I think of NC/SC, ND/SD, and WA/OR. Not only border wars, but also represent their own region/subculture (Pacific NW, Carolinas).

I'm sure there's more to it than that. They just have the best all-around program in a number of areas. Nothing is forever though, look at Tennessee. You'd think Geno would try to find a new challenge after a while, either on the men's side or WNBA. He and they have nothing left to prove.

To be understated, doesn't a rivalry have to at least exist? How many times have these two played each other in hoops since USC left the ACC?

Forget hoops, we're just talking state to state. Perhaps a South Carolina national title over UNC will ignite a rivalry.

Chris Silva is the new Kermit Washington. The fact that he wasn't ejected is the biggest injustice of this tournament so far.

There are many women's college teams that have a "squad" of men to play against in practice.
