RE: 2/11/2017 - Turning Point?
We are playing defense like we did OOC and now are scoring points to go along with it. If we played like this throughout the season, namely FTs and shooting, we would have wins over Louisville, LSU, and VCU without the bad losses to FAU, Charlotte, and Marshall. We would essentially be in the exact same spot as MTSU is right now and looking at a 2-bid league. Hopefully we don't phuck it up next year.

Yawn. We just barely pulled out a lucky win over the 245th rpi team in the country.
It's an improvement for sure, but we barely beat a team with a 245 rpi. Let's calm down on the back-patting k sweetie?
All conference road wins are precious.... all of them.
(I do agree with you re: MTSU... it's a stay in our annual basketball execution. a one game delay until we're sent to the next, new pay-to-play post season tourney)

Well, we do have a pretty decent shot at making this a two bid league THIS season. For that to happen ODU will have to exorcise the demons and defeat MT in the CUSA Final. That's exactly what I am hoping for. ODU has everything in place to make it happen.

I liked those years in '05, '10, and '11 when we went into the conference tournament with the comfort of knowing we were only playing for NCAA tournament seeding. Of course we did indeed win all those in the brown spaceship, I want to get this program back to where they find themselves in that position.

I think we can all agree with that. I just want to point out that despite the perceived weakness of the league, what a huge accomplishment it was to finish with the 3 seed this season after finishing with the 5 seed last season; all of that after having graduated nearly 50% of our scoring, and a large part of leadership, in Freeman and Bacote. This was a very young team at the atart of the year and they have experienced a lot of winning and figured out how to win in very difficult situations like at UAB and last night at UTEP.

Agreed. Huge win.
I know that I gave up on this team after the FAU loss. Whatever they got going since UAB, let's keep it going.
Maybe we can get Caver some much deserved rest tomorrow night. While it would be nice to get win #20 before the tournament, in reality the game means little.

Before the season started, I thought we'd go 12-6 in the conference. One month ago, I wasn't sure. If we take care of business on Saturday, we'll finish 13-5. I am pleasantly surprised with how this season has turned around.

If we happen to win the CUSA Tournament, the game could be the difference between a 13 seed playing a winnable game and a 15 seed playing someone like Arizona or Baylor. While the game is certainly meaningless in the short term, I'd rather win it just in case we catch fire in a pan. There is plenty of time to rest next week.

I agree we want to win it, but more from a momentum perspective. We want to go into the tournament on a roll with no blips. Keep the fire going.

RE: 2/11/2017 - Turning Point?
Let's get it right now, not next year. Right now. We have more contributors than last year so no reason we shouldn't take it. Last year we were within one defensive possession from taking it--with almost all the scoring coming from 2 guys. The time is now and I still think we can play better.
ODU could actually be sitting in a good place about to make a run of appearances...just like several years back. The real cool thing is now that the football team did the impossible and got to double digit wins, the basketball team was supposed to hit the Final 4 line, if I recall. So perhaps things are really about to get interesting in the 757!!

FTL, I'm starting to think, well, maybe yes we can do this. It sure seems like the players and coaches think so, might as well join them! What a turnaround. Very thrilled by all this.

We may not be a great team but this team is playing its best ball of the season, UTEP is not the 245th ranked team based on their current performance and our underclassman are leading the way. There is much to be excited about.
I know you like your role of "saying it like it is" but give the team some credit for pulling it together at the end of the season and posing a considerable threat going into the conference tournament.
I was yawning about his annoying troll post.
I give them team credit for improving as the season has progressed.
I'm still just not entirely sure where we are in the grand scheme of things because a 5 game winning streak, while very good, doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot BIG picture wise when you are playing in a league full of terrible teams with terrible RPI's.
A really good team goes 17-1 or 18-0 in this league.......which is exactly what MTSU just did. And it's debatable whether they are even an at large team.
Blaines best teams run through this league 17-1 IMHO.
