The Sun Belt doesn't need a university in the burbs of Atlanta when we already have a school in the city of Atlanta.
UTA starts football? Awesome. Try to swipe Marshall or approach JMU again.

I have no problem with an EKU team. Kinda surprised CCU got the pick over EKU. However, I guess those in power know better than I do as EKU has **** the bed in sports since CCU's announcement.

I like EKU and wish them well but after all was said and done I think the Presidents made the best choice with CCU. EKU may be in the Sun Belt one day but at this point I believe it will be while before we see any new FBS teams added.

Keep NMST and Idaho FB only. If Idaho still decides to go back to FCS then pick up UMASS FB only.

I believe Staben has caught enough hell at this point that if any FBS conference, including the Sun Belt, offered a deal there is very little chance Idaho would say no. Especially if word of an offer got out.

I can't imagine any reason to be interested in EKU.

It would give some of our Sunbelt brothers a chance to win a game?

Yeah, passing on EKU turned out to be a very good decision. I'm sure they'll eventually get it all figured out, but they would have been a disaster at least early on.

LatahCounty,
Do you have Any insight about whether that could burn bridges with Big Sky members? Would their be anger from Montana, EWU, and the other long list of schools in that league who would demand Idaho be "all in or all out?" After all, it would really mess up their plans on pretty short notice if they joined an FBS league for football only. Or would they say, "it's cool. We'd be FBS too, if we could. Do your thing. We're just glad to have a school of Idaho's academic caliber on our league roster." Thoughts?
Hoping y'all get that call from Craig Thompson & the Mountain West to make this all, as Joey from Friends would say, a "moo point."

Some likely wouldn't be thrilled with us, but I doubt any ultimatums would be issued or any bridges would be burned. We make way too much geographic sense for many to want to boot us, and according to the report from the independent consultant Idaho hired to help make a decision (which Staben ignored) there are actually schools in the Big Sky who preferred that Idaho keep its football out of that conference because they didn't want to create an "arms race" within the Big Sky. So some would be happy for us to back out. Plus, we're a full member so it would take a lot to throw us out of the conference altogether.
A few would grumble, but they'd get over it pretty quickly.

Everything
EKU is smothered by UK. There's a difference between blindly going after marketz, and understanding that some media coverage is needed and that at least the potential to capture casual fans is desirable.
CCU also offered the promise of better facilities, and access to a recruiting area considered desirable to at least 3 of our current institutions. Few recruit Kentucky.
Fair or not, my perception (and I think it is shared by others) is that EKU is maxed out at the level of a barely viable FBS program. In an emergency we'd take them (certainly before Liberty, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Central Arkansas, etc.) based upon our current membership, but I can't see the Belt taking them in a stable situation.

I just don't see what they offer. Mediocre in all three big sports, not a lot of money, not in a desirable location for TV or recruiting purposes, bad attendance, not very good academically, etc.

Have you ever been to Richmond Kentucky or EKU? Not much there to get excited about and football wise they haven't been very good since the very early days of 1-AA. Last time they won a playoff game was 1992.
