Talley is the only other player in the starting lineup that can make plays off the dribble. That really showed up against URI and VCU. ODUs biggest strengths this year are depth, rebounding, size and athleticism. Not having Zoran affects all of these areas.
Do you think Talley would have scored enough to offset the points he took from BJ if he were starting at the 3? I don't, because he very rarely has. Having him may have helped with depth, but I have little faith JJ would have managed the rotation in a way that we got more than the 17 points BJ got us from that position. The reality is BJ would probably have played like 10 minutes and scored 4 points if Talley was there.

Then it should have been better to get it to the post, run back door, and run drive and dish plays. As it was we cleared out and asked a very low percentage shooter take the game over.

It is certainly not as hard as JJ makes it. You have to work pretty hard to keep a bunch of D1 athletes from scoring more than 39 points in a game.

JJ made some really nice second half adjustments such as opening the game up for Caver to get going downhill. JJ not calling a timeout during the last 27 seconds was baffling, especially when the majority of that botched sequence happened in front of him.

The real reason ODU lost, outside of poor free throw shooting was Allie-Cox eliminating Brandan Stith. The majority of the second half Stith wouldn't even bother posting up...that is the offense. The burden was then placed on Caver to match JeQuan Lewis and company possession for possession. I was shocked to see Stith not able to compete in such a big spot.

I think he made some nice adjustments defensively, but I would argue if their adjustments forced us to have a 30% shooter take a ton shots, Wade won the adjustments.

disappointingblast few games for Brandan. He really did nothing in half court as Cox just took him out. Then he forced that fadeaway jumper for no apparent reason.

Brandan just isn't a 5. He would be a fantastic 4 if Porter could be good enough to play the 5. Brandan would be great if his role centered around getting rebounds and garbage baskets.

What does that have to do with Brandan? The first and only time we saw Brandan and Trey play together immediately resulted in a dunk for Brandan because Cox moved to Porter and he was able to pull him away from the basket and give Brandan some room. I would like to see more of that.

And I don't think you necessarily need a true 5, but I don't think you can have 2 garbage men in the post together. If we had a stretch 4, that would help Brandan as well. Playing Talley at the 4 more could help as well. And for the love of God, give Kah a chance. You can't convince me that Vassor is better than him.

Anybody want to help some VCU students out? (Just make sure you get Goodyear condoms.)
