RE: If some of you got what you wanted...CFB would suffer
Take a look and step back to see where CFB was in the BCS era.

Six conferences had autobids to one of the major bowl games with the Top 2 teams in the polls/computers playing for a national championship.

The critique was a 4 team playoff would settle the annual arguments every year that the #3 team would be left out. Selection of the Top 4 would be made by a committee that watches the games and there would be no automatic bids for certain conferences to it which was a major gripe by the non-BCS schools.

The resulting system has the talking heads every week throwing up a graphic of the Top 4 teams in the country and then below that showing teams #5 and #6 who are on the cusp of making it in. Four teams makes it competitive because at a maximum only four conference champions can make it. B12 with a bad season is out of the conversation completely.

If you tried to go to 8 teams, throw up an 8 team graphic and then the next 4 teams in I think it starts to get complicated for the fans. Also there are so many things that can happen to shake up a Top 8 in a given week.

If this 4 team playoff competition drives the Texas schools of the B12 into the arms of the PAC then its accomplished its mission to make things competitive. Then it leads to the B12 adding strong AAC and MWC schools to play in a conference with a NY6 tie, cutting the competition for the remaining G5 schools.

Well, luckily for G5 fans and alumni, their presidents know how the system works and how G5 schools benefit from it. So there isn't going to be any splitting or G5 tournament, any time soon.

You've gained access and payout in every iteration of the major CFB post-season, since the BCS system was forced to include G5 teams that were ranked higher than the (defacto Big East) lowest ranked BCS conf champ. You'll keep climbing, slow and steady. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the Access Bowls!
