It did not look like a concussion to me. He grabbed at his neck. Stinger?

RE: NIU Game Thread
The Eastern receivers looked very slow and small last night. Very little separation from the defense. The passing game just out of sync all night long. Kilby would been a big help last night. Eastern should have used the tight ends more.

Injury at the running back position are really starting to take their toll. Anyone know the status of Turner and Erickson?

This is we are having a beat writer would be helpful ( hello MLive).

Not sure Eastern can bounce back from this disaster. A loss to CMU--highly likely now and they do not get a crappy bowl game. And the non-winning record streak will continue. Unbelievable how snakebit this program is. Just when you think they turned a corner...some things never change.

Typo?

We are guaranteed a bowl bid.

MAC will likely get six bids, including Poinsetia in San Diego, and may or may not even have six eligible teams.

My other first thought was: Shoulder and I went: "Oh, no."

RE: NIU Game Thread
Last night seemed like we were watching a team whose players have been a part of a culture of winning vs a team who is still figuring this winning thing out. While NIU has struggled this season.... They've been up for a long time. Those guys know what it takes. Hopefully our team will learn from this and take a big step forward next week.

First half was one of the best halves of EMU football I've seen and the very style of E Tough, the second half was so retro EMU like we had previous EMU teams come back and play the second half. I watched the second half in shock.

RE: NIU Game Thread
Dear Friends,
Remember before this season began, most of us were thinking six wins would be the sky. Most of us were in the three to five wins as a total. Eastern got us really excited by the five and two start, but since, well we all know.
My observations of the game last night: Our defensive line is not getting to the opposing quarterback, our quarterback missed open receivers late in the game, and continually threw into coverage, Coach Creighton should have gone for the go ahead touchdown with forty seconds to go in the game, no guts, no glory, why no trick plays in the second half? Northern ran a reverse for a touchdown, and for whatever reason or reasons, we are still giving up the big play. Three times last night. The way Eastern is playing right now, a bowl game would be an embarrassment.

RE: NIU Game Thread
First things first, luckily OC should be fine, seemed to be a stinger.

Bottom line, we have Jay Cutler at QB. His arm strength is his blessing, and his curse. Forced balls, erratic play, super highs and super lows are what you get, it is what it is, and highly unlikely to change next game, or next year.

Only logical reason they run 4 straight times in OT with our 4th/5th RB, would seem to be they lost all faith in the QB in the second half.

Could be wrong, but him and DeBoer just seem to be a bad match. Creighton/DeBoer have repeatedly tried to replace him with dual-threat type QB's, only to go back because of injuries. Call me crazy, but if we hang on to Grissom, and he comes in mature beyond his years, he will get a legit shot to compete for the QB job next year. DeBoer really, really, really likes the zone read option as part of his arsenal. Wouldn't be shocked if we have a 2 QB system again next year.

Glass still half full if we beat CMU.

E'Tough:

Any 'read' on the status of our RBs for Tuesday and a bowl game 4 weeks/30 days afterwards?

[One thing which makes bowl games fun is that players usually get 30 days after the end of the season to heal. Thirty days heals a lot of sprained ankles, concussions, sore backs, etc.]

So, I've had a night to sleep on it and with the morning comes a fresh perspective. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm still pissed.

I'm still of the mind that Ball State and NIU were kind of 'coin flip' games.

50 - 50 to win (or lose) either.

I couldn't say which we would win or which we'd lose, but we were good enough to win one and bad enough to lose one...

Just my guess........ Don't think Turner is something major (surgery related) but not sure they risk his long term health bringing him back late.

Eriksen played great, but we should just expect that he'll be nicked up his entire career because of the way he runs, and his injury history. Probably see him back next week, just looked like he had a slight ankle sprain at one point, followed by a tender shoulder after he landed on it late.

Parker getting only 1 carry in each of the last 2 games is kind of stupid after burning the kids redshirt. Yes he fumbled on his first carry the last game, but so did Diuly, and he's continued to play. Then he gets a single carry in this game, before they plug Banham in there. Talk about messing with a kids head. Love Banham, he's a tough, consistent little player, but the speed and explosiveness just isn't there. Parker has both those things and these last 3 games would have been the perfect opportunity to see how he might fit in the plans for next year. As it stands, he probably disappears behind Vann, Turner, and Eriksen next year, and they burned his redshirt for about 5 or 6 worthless carries.

Trying to stay positive, but CMU is now a must win in my eyes. Totally agree with TheCrumb and KPJ that this team just doesn't know how to win, after being mentally abused for so long. That game was a complete mental meltdown from top to bottom.

The crazy thing was, I was finally ready to buy into Roback, and the team, after that first half. The second half confirmed our worst fears.

We have bounced back all year, so I'll assume we'll do the same next week.

First half? How about only the first 10 minutes! 17 first downs almost 300 yards of offense then nothing! Lots of dropped balls and throwing in to double and triple coverages. 03-banghead

RE: NIU Game Thread
Yeah with Brogan his timing is either a .1 of a second past the defender making him look brilliant or .1 of a second late which is either incomplete or an interception. That first interception should never have been thrown there were two NIU guys right there, he just whizzed it in hence the tip. Two things that bother me one mentioned briefly by another poster-our sacks against QB have declined as the season has wore on-time to liven up the pass rush to get to the QB, and yes the amount of dropped passes by our WRs appears to me at least to have increased as the season has progressed.

Another observation: I don't think Johnny Niapalau played. He had a good game last week, so I wonder why.

They certainly did cool down. But they did score a late first half TD and NIU had zero points in the half.

Not my Chips but I doubt they are quaking in their boots. What a disaster that game was last night. Choke city.
