100000%. Didn't start even trying to establish the run in the 2nd half until we were losing.

It's overtime, they start on the 25 how can they even question if a ball on the 16 it's a first down

Yeah, that was a no brainer.
I think the game officials were stunned too.

I can't believe how conservative running in OT, down to what our 4th string RB?
Got to throw...

Coaching terrible.......Roback terrible......tackling terrible.
4 straight runs with our 5th string walkon RB
We so deserved to lose that game.

RE: NIU Game Thread
Just a truly awful 2nd half. We blew a 21 point lead to a QB who couldn't throw a basic slant consistently. Our offense got too stagnant, and our defense forgot how to tackle. We all thought the pressure would be off now that we are bowl eligible. I think the opposite happened...we got complacent. Hopefully that's a wake up call and we beat the ish outta CMU next week so we can feel confident going into the bowl game.

Was literally just about to mention that it was unfair to put the game entirely in Banham's hands. Didn't even give our QB a chance to do it himself. Creighton and DeBoer should really be kicking themselves right now.

Just embarrassing. At least all those who were talking about Creighton being a 'hot commodity' can come back to reality now. I think DeBoer must have fallen asleep in the pressbox at halftime as well. They made adjustments, we didn't.
And Roback.......let's not even get started there.

One of the things we see so late in the season is the effect of injuries... for both teams...

Injuries? Come on Steve, they were way...way...way...way further down their injury chart than we were.
That loss had ZERO to do with injuries.

I'm so disgusted I'll just go away now before I say something I'll regret.
I will say this.......if we lose at home to CMU next week, it will be a very, very disappointing end to the season.....with or without some low level bowl game.
Goodnight to all who just put themselves through that pathetic game. Kudos to you for hanging in there.

I wasn't making excuses. I was just referring to how deep both teams were in their depth charts.

The ONLY place we were deep in our depth chart was at RB. And our genius coach and OC run basically the same run play 4 times in a row to end the game!
(Nothing against Banham, he's a great kid, not his fault at all)

One of NIU's injuries hurt EMU and helped NIU. The one where Bouagnon went down, and a better RB had to play despite Carey's attempts to limit him as he has for the past 3 years. Hate to say it as Bouagnon is solid, he just doesn't have any explosion to him.

RE: NIU Game Thread
Well, I've been watching the Hurons/Eagles consistently for over 30 years and this was as disappointing as they get.
The good:
- The O was very, very sharp in the first half. Roback was on target. They were running the ball well. A few miscues kept them from putting the game away.
- The D played very well in the first half.
The bad:
- At halftime an EMU fan taunted a NIU coach when he was waiting for the elevator. I thought to myself that was low class and the game wasn't over.
- Total and completely different team in the second half. Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Flat, missing tackles, the passing game went south. Terribly uninspired.
- KO coverage terrible. KO return terrible.
- High snap cost us a FG.
- Roback forced a pass into double coverage deep in their territory. Interception.
- Bad penalties for Wylie and O'Connor.
- Aristilde dropped a sure TD on a perfect pass.
- Ineffective and strange play calling both on our last set of down in the 4th quarter and OT.
- O'Connor looks like he was badly hurt.
- Kilby never played. It looks like his hand is hurt.
- Barnes has had two mediocre game in a row.
- I've seen Renius kick it deep into the end zone many times. Why not tonight?
- Roback toss into the flat that should have been picked off and returned.
- RB's are taking a beating this season. Vann gone, Turner gone, Erickson constantly banged up. Banham has been hurt too. Not sure why they didn't use Parker. Maybe the fumble last week is part of it.
We stayed until the bitter end and arrived home at about 12:40.
It is my observation that they just couldn't keep focused. The first half was too easy. I don't think NIU did anything spectacular to come back. I don't want to diminish their effort, but EMU was just a different team.

RE: NIU Game Thread
Definitely a very dissapointing loss considering how good they looked in the first half before I had to go to bed. Honestly though a game like this and a game like the Miami game are not terribly surprising because this team is still learning how to win. Remember that this team and coaching staff has gone from winning 3 games in 2 years to winning 6 this year and are playing meaningful games here in November for the first time in a long, long time. Looking long term these are the types of games that focus the players and to make them realize that you need to play for 60 minutes against your opponent. If you let up, they will take advantage. This same thing applies to our coaching staff as well. In a way, I think the team thought they'd finally cruise to an easy win and exhaled. Remember that NIU has been at the top of the MAC, so there is a lot of pride on that sideline.
One thing I have noticed though is that this team seems to handles adversity better than prosperity, which in some ways is a good sign. Again everything this year should be a learning experience to hopefully build upon in the years to come. The bowl game practices would be helpful regardless of the result of the bowl game. I'm going to take the attitude that this is a learning experience for us to be competent For years to come.
Besides, a win over CMU next week and this team guarantees a winning season. It would be a great one to win for our seniors. Live and move on.

What is the story with POC? Was he concussed on that play really late when he ended up going helmet to helmet, I think.
