Yeah, I think ODU has gotten a heck of a lot better as well.(in part because Lawry is finally healthy) I think they are younger than Charlotte and UTSA.

You guys lost to UTEP just 3 games ago and just beat a team that lost QB. (granted it was what, 21-7 at the time?)

Ive been impressed with UTSA this year, even when we played them. But, there is no justification for them to be ranked higher.

This has been one crazy year in C-USA. I can't really define our conference much any more. That makes for interesting conference watching from the inside, but doesn't do much for us on the outside. Notwithstanding that fact, I've decided just to enjoy the ride, even though my Herd is in the last car on the train.

Looks like WKU and LaTech are pulling away from the pack. Other than games against MTSU the closest conference game score wise 21 points (LaTech over UTEP 28-7). Western has outscored their last 3 opponents 111-24 just in the first half.
So based on overall so far.

Gilesfan, as ODU Aggie has already pointed out, you are reacting to the comments of the most feeble-minded poster on this forum -- one whose mommy won't let him read comments posted by those mean ODU posters.

You need to read Dawgxas as pure entertainment. Because that's all there is.

If Stockstill was healthy I would agree with you. With him likely out for the remainder it is tough to put MTSU over ODU. MTSU's defense is not very good (throwing stones in glass houses I know), and without Stock, I am not sure their offense will be able to keep pace.

Our offense will be okay, though it might not be the same rate of scoring. Problem is that the defense has gotten worse as the year has gone on

Only got to watch till halftime of the Middle game before heading out to watch Western play...

Middle's qb did not look bad to me in the limited time I saw him. I actually thought he threw a good deep ball. As with any freshman (most qbs)it will be DECISION making that tells the tale.

This is what I expect to see teams do to Middle...fill the box and make the new guy show he can beat you. Middle biggest weakness is going up against better D/O lines and teams that have good LB'er quickness.

I think this kid is serviceable enough to win out

I do have a question for Middle fans. Is this a true freshman and if so did he just burn his redshirt year? I know he might be Middle's best shot at QB but I think it's crazy for a coach to burn a redshirt year for 3 games. That's if Stockstill.

So at this point even with the loss yesterday...

Tech
Western

Middle
UTSA
ODU
S.MISS

Even with ODU beating UTSA I think they are the better team

Lets think about this for a second...

if Western craps the bed in 1 of the last 2 games a team Western beat by what could have been 70+ points could be playing for a conference championship.

Urzua took a redshirt last season so he's a R-FR this season.

UTSA probably. The fact is we blew out teams that are somehow ranked ahead of us but has been attributed to "getting better." The getting better somehow conincides with being a week after losing to ODU.

We dont have wins over USM or MTSU without their QB for sure. But we have blown out 6 teams on our schedule, many without out best player in Lawry. And if you look at the numbers (even ignoring head to head), ODU comes out ahead over UTSA and Charlotte. UTSA just recently lost to UTEP. What teams has ODU lost to that werent good teams?

I'm not arguing with the rankings nor do I care if we are ranked number two or number 5. That's why they play the games and you can see who did this best with their given schedule. I'd for sure give you guys the nod over us but we are playing very good right now. That can change very soon.

Lastly, we knocked both QB's out of the game. Clean hits and that's a part of the game. We were playing the whole half without one of if not our best player cause of that stupid targeting rule. I don't get worked up about power rankings on a board. I want to go to a bowl game. That's it. I'm glad you guys are doing great. A very nice school and a good addition to CUSA.

LA Tech, WKU - Clearly the top two teams until someone beats them again

ODU - Yes, a team that was down to WKU 52-7 at halftime could be the 3rd best team in CUSA. Don't ask me to explain it, because I can't. But ODU did beat UTSA and Charlotte in head-to-heads, and that ranks first in my book.

UTSA, Charlotte - This is a tie. Clearly the two BEST surprises in CUSA for 2016. Their game on Nov 26th is going to be a good one.

USM - Suddenly, USM's last 3 games of the season --at ODU, at UNT and at home against LA Tech-- look ominous.

UNT, MT, FIU - These are hard to rank. UNT is clearly moving up, and MTSU is clearly moving down. And FIU did beat Charlotte. So.......

FAU, UTEP, Marshall - All of these teams hope to finish with 4 or 5 wins.

Rice - Bailiff needs to go. Rice is a good brand that deserves better.

Nicely written HogDawg. That was a very reasonable and rational analysis. Much better than the comedy act that initiated this topic. I haven't seen LA Tech play this season, but if they are a better team than Western KY then I tip my hat to them (yes I know they defeated them earlier). No complaint with your assessment of them being ranked on top though since they won the head to head match up. 04-cheers

Good post WKUYG. I might throw Charlotte in there behind UTSA, currently the way Charlottes playing.

I dont see WKU losing, but yes definite separation in the East currently with WKU tops and Middle (without stockstill) Charlotte and ODU far behind

RE: Power Rankings - Week 10
ODU backers seem to take how others rank them quite seriously (lol). And I keep reading over and over again about how you keep reminding everyone about beating us. Let me first congratulate you on that win. Much has changed since then with our team.

As you all know, we have a new staff this year, but we also have nearly 20 new starters under that new staff, and started off the year 1-3, with our only win in those first 4 games under our new staff and new lineup coming over a very weak FCS team. Growing pains.

Since then, our team has slowly started to gel, and we've won 4 of 5, with 3 of those 4 wins coming against quality teams in USM, UNT, and MTSU. We did have a burp in our progress when we lost in 5 overtimes to UTEP, but UTEP had 2 weeks to prepare for that game, and the strange thing about our series with them is that the visiting team has won all four meetings so far. The loss hurt us and is a thorn in our side right now as we're trying to be bowl-eligible, but we've responded well these last 2 weeks.

I think it's fair to say though that you guys have had a soft schedule in comparison. Only 3 of the 9 opponents you've faced this year have winning records. You lost two of those three on the road (by 24 and 35 points) and won the other against us by 14 at home. Six of our 9 games have been against teams with winning records. We lost the first three very early in the season, and have won the last three. And we still have La Tech next week, Texas A&M the week after, and then Charlotte, which would make our number of opponents over .500 at least eight for the year.

You guys can say your team has changed a lot since the beginning of the year also, but I think that your game against Southern Miss next week will be an interesting test of that claim, as it'll be only the 2nd time in the last 6 weeks you've faced someone over .500. Then you get to close out the year against the Florida schools who have a combined record of 5-14.

All said, for now, I do think you're entitled to be ranked above us because of that win early in the year, but our schedules are certainly very different, and as said, much has changed since.

Btw, I was VERY critical of our new staff early in the year with what I saw as a lack of progress, not knowing that as we put our new system in place, we also had nearly 20 new starters. I'm officially now on board and would relish a chance to play anyone we faced early on now, just for comparison's sake.

RE: Power Rankings - Week 10
UTSA is one of the few CUSA schools that I actually got to watch a few times this season and from the eye test I would take them over ODU as the better team. Personally I think the difference in them being 5-4 or 6-3 maybe 7-2 is confidence and just not knowing how to close out a game. Which goes hand in hand with confidence.

Going into 2017 UTSA will be my pick to win the West and maybe CUSA. Next week will tell us a lot about how far they have come or how far they still have to go...

Tech's offense is top 2 and probably 1A to 1B with Western's (you could put either team at 1a and not be wrong) this season with Middle being 3rd.

I don't see UTSA winning that game but I don't think it will be the blowout we seen from most of Tech's conference games. Possible but I think UTSA doing what Western did 3 years ago...

building for a breakout season next year and along the way growing game in game out this season. Sure there are some letdowns, UTEP game being one of those. But for me personally I love the look of this team. From a QB to the lines and the offensive backfield that can control the flow of a game

I'd buy in to the UTSA hype more if they hadn't just lost to UTEP a few weeks ago. Theyre streaky and we're consistently mediocre. Fact is beyond WKU, LT and maybe MT none of are very good. But if you're judging ODU based on the WKU game then you're not getting the full picture. We're better than that. If we played WKU 10 times this year they might win all 10 because both their lines are better and it's hard to win games when you lose in the trenches. But we wouldn't get embarrassed like that every time.

The point we are making is that we are very young, 4th youngest team in FBS. So we will have those ganes and over time learn to put those games away... hopefully.
