RE: In the world of the "have-nots" these additions weaken CUSA
Well, hopefully with CUSA coming and a marketing department that's starting to feel their oats again we can fill up Floyd Stadium for football more than ever before. If we had a good push for season tickets and a consistently-winning football team we could get 30k a game pretty easily, since Vandy's the only real in-town competition for actual butts-in-seats (and they're not much anyway). Hopefully the AD here can get it together and put some things together.
Basketball on the other hand is rising dramatically. Attendance has shot up in the last year and a half, and I expect we could finish between 7-8k or perhaps more on average this year. Big increase from the crappy 3k we used to draw for good games... Now that Coach Kermit Davis' strategies are working out and people are going to the games (and the team is winning!!) the basketball program (men's) is super strong. Women's basketball at MT is best in SBC and best overall in "mid-major" leagues and has been for a long time.

I really don't mean offense to any of the additions, all of us came from somewhere after all, but CUSA looks significantly weaker to me than the Big East and MWC, even MAC right now. Marshall and LaTech (assuming Dykes stays or they get a great replacement) are going to have to lead the way. Let's hope USM can fix their **** too, they were THE CUSA team during my team's tenure in the league.
The future is going to be very very interesting..
edit - personally, I would have looked at some of the Louisiana schools, but I understand the need to not over saturate a single region.
Oh, based on the thread title, I thought SMU had rejoined CUSA.

In the spirit of our new tradition of raising threads from the dead on Halloween, I offer this. It's not the oldest accessible thread, but it's arguably the saltiest of the last-page lingerers.

SMU has been a godsend for the AAC, said no one ever.
Rice has a better program than SMU, even with Bailiff DOA.

edit - personally, I am a SMU fan, and therefore a fan of a school that never really contributed anything to CUSA, so my opinion doesn't matter.
FIFY
Didn't SMU lose to JMU last year?
Seems like they have enough issues of their own.

I would imagine it's because the conference standings show the conference newbies are performing quite well despite what many of the old guard perceived as weak additions.

Only if you guys disinfect Dawgxas first. We're afraid that whatever he has might be contagious.

I wouldn't go that far
That pounding that WKU put on them and getting blown out by a Sunbelt team every year says otherwise
We know ODU has work to achieve the caliber team of WKU. However, we have come a long way since our first season just 7 short years ago. We still do not have a full team of FBS recruits and we have an excellent chance of making a bowl game this year. I know you will NEVER give ODU any credit because if your unreasonable hate for us. I'm not sure why you feel that way but ODU fans know your skewed view of us.

TV is where they weakened us, not on-the-field as much.
