Really odd timing. If they were going to make a move they should have done it a few weeks ago.

It would make sense if UConn has already lined up someone (Schiano?) for the job. Otherwise, yeah, not the best timing on their part.

Even then they are even further behind the eight-ball this recruiting class. They'll have 18 days to put a class together with the dead periods between now and signing day.

+1. Strange timing.

UConn saves money on the buyout by making the termination effective on 1/2/17.

From what I understand, the buyout drops from $5 million to $3.4 million after New Year's Day.

I understand why they would do that from a purely financial perspective. But it sounds cheesy to me to do it anyway. Sounds like Diaco's agent didn't protect his client very well.

So to save a miniscule amount of money they set back any potential recovery one, and more likely two years?

And people wonder why the ACC football schools want absolutely nothing to do with UConn.

If ACC doesn't want UConn, I hope the Big Ten will pick them up eventually. Would go great with Maryland in the East.

True, Michigan and Ohio State need another easy conference game.

Waiting for Bill Snyder to retire.

If Minnesota is stupid enough to fire Tracy Claeys, then K-State would do very well to hire him ... either as HC or perhaps as DC under Venables.

Doubt Venables goes anywhere anytime soon. His son Jake, a 4star LB, just committed to Clemson. Between making HC money without the associated pressures and that IMO he's at Clemson for at least the next four or five years.

I think that day may be coming sooner, rather than later.

That's hilarious.

Almost as funny as the Minnesota fans who think they are going to bring in Chip.

RE: coaches
Minn AD and prez met with PJ Fleck yesterday. That has been reported, but nothing more is public at this time. Lot of talk about him being the possible next HC of Minnesota in the StarTrib today.

*IF* Minn ends up hiring Fleck, then the best we can realistically hope for is that Fleck is following a very similar trajectory as Urban Meyer and his stop at the U of Minn will be like Meyer's stop at Utah. Both had their first head coaching gig at a MAC school, then moved up to high end G5/low end P5 program.

Seems like a realistic option to me. Buyout is only 600k so very doable.

I still think Bo would do well there.
