I wonder how much of this is related to the massive losses Louisiana is taking from the price of oil. This spring there was a lot of talk about how they may shut down athletic departments or even consolidate some of the smaller colleges.

If it is fake, it is well done, thus I don't believe it is fake but I could find out easily enough (as could any of you) by sending an FOI request to your AD.

The ULM AD has been telling his fans that he was trying to get a 6th home game for years. This shows that he was actively preventing a 6th game because he thinks his fans cannot purchase a season ticket package with 6 games. Thats fake.

I have spoken with him many times about scheduling and unless he was blatantly lying, he wants 6 home games at least every other year. In fact as Bluephi said, he is still wanting 6 for that year, but wants a more regional team that doesn't cost as much and will draw better. Should have not agreed to the deal in the first place. If paying that kind of money should be someone like Mississipi St.

To break even, you need 15,000 fans paying $27. That shouldn't be an issue for a FBS school. Otherwise, ULM shouldn't be in FBS. (and I use 15k because that is the required threshold to stay FBS.)

Most SBC schools don't charge $27 per game, so that number actually has to go up.

Ok, first of all, let's get off the idea the email may be a fake. It was the result of a FOI request.

And, if you believe the explanation about the 400K and not being able to pass it on to fans, then you look at what that implies: The school's athletic budget can't handle the hit. If that isn't a sign of real financial trouble then there is no such thing as a sign.

If the $400,000 price ticket was too much, then the AD and the president were foolish for letting it happen in the first place.

In the email Wickstrom says there hasn't been six home games in about 15 years. You finally get it done and then decide you can't afford to get it done.

If I'm Matt Viator, I'm pissed right now.

But that brings up something else: It is past time for ULM to either make a serious commitment to athletics or give up the ghost. I do NOT believe the current president really cares whether athletics succeeds or fails, despite his posturing (that is just my opinion, but I'm not the only one who has it.)

I don't think you understand how a Home & Home works. In the contract, the home team pays the visiting team. So, this year when ya'll go to Albuquerque, New Mexico should pay ULM $400,000. It's a zero sum series. It's to offset the travel cost for that year for the visiting team since the home team gets money from ticket sales. Scheduling a "regional team" that doesn't cost as much makes no sense. Sure you may pay them $200k to visit Monroe, but they will pay you $200k to visit them also, so its no difference. What it comes down to, is ULM does not have enough money to have 6 home games and is heavily dependent on they "money games" from playing P5's. If your AD is able to get rid of the game, he basically has a $400k money game this year, which is way less than he could have got had he scheduled an actual money game instead of a home/home series.
