RE: Top rated college football games this year
ND in 1 game
B12 in 1 game
SEC in 1 game ooc, 4 conf games
ACC in 1 game ooc, 1 conf game
B10 in 3 conf games
so 8 of the top 10 games were conference games, with only ND/Texas and Ole Miss/FSU being OOC games.
SEC with 2 of the top 4 games.
Big ten with 3 of the top 7.

Good stuff. The SEC is just about done with non-conference games (except for Rivalry Week). The ACC still has its games with Notre Dame. Beyond that it's mostly conference games after this weekend, only a few of which get huge ratings.

RE: Top rated college football games this year
Alabama-Ole Miss is most likely of this week's games to make that list. The three OTA games in east coast prime time are likely to cannibalize each other and get good-not-great ratings.

Alabama/Ole Miss will for sure. I think Louisville/FSU probably gets on as well... The 3 OTA games may- but there again, all they would need to get on the list is 4.016 million(assuming both Alabama and Louisville games get on.
I suspect we already have 4 of our final top 10.

ESPN available in 90million households?
ABC available in ... let's say 120M households.
8.34M out of 90M is about 9.3%.
10.95M out of 120M is about 9.1%.

Agree that Alabama @ Ole Miss will get on this list.
I'd be very surprised if the Ohio State @ Oklahoma game on FOX was not their best regular season rated football game (not involving ND) ever, or at worse, second best and in either case that is more than enough (4+ million) to make this list.
Less likely that FSU @ Louisville gets on this list mainly because it would need to draw more than 4 million as a noon game to make the list if the above is true. But even that has been done every year at least twice, sometimes three times.
Cheers,
Neil

Definitely. I believe that over the past three years all but one of the Top 10 regular season highest rated games has had over 7 million viewers, so with the fourth game having over 7.8 million viewers, the Top 4 should make the list comfortably based upon current trends.
Cheers,
Neil

RE: Top rated college football games this year
Alabama/Ole Miss got a 5.4 rating, 2nd best of the year behind ND/Texas. Looking at over 9 million viewers...
Louisville/FSU got a 4.5 rating. Looking at about 7.6 million viewers...
Ohio St/Oklahoma got a 3.8 rating. Looking at about 6.5 million viewers
Mich St/Notre Dame got a 3.2 rating. That would be in the 5.5 million range I think.
So all 4 games will make the top 10 list- with Mich St/ND being the new #10. Will update chart when final numbers are released.

How did the Oregon/Nebraska game do? Very entertaining game but up against Bama.

haven't seen those numbers yet, but wouldn't think all that well. That's such a huge number that Alabama/Ole Miss got.

OK, so that means 99% of the populations of Alabama and Mississippi were tuned in. And a handful of other people.

college football is a lot more national now than you want to admit. 1 of the biggest things that the BCS did was make all games much more national.

So then why does the NFL take great pains to ensure that its games are not only not national, but decisively local??
Sorry but I don't buy it. Why does someone in Washington state, Wisconsin, or New York give a crap about what happens in the honky-tonk deep south?? I sure don't.

guarantee you folks in Columbus Ohio were watching the Alabama game. So was Norman, Oklahoma, Stanford, California, Clemson, SC, Louisville, KY, etc.
Also, the NFL has gone way more to national games in the past 10 years. Between the Thursday night games, along with the London games starting at 9:30- thus shown nationally, and the late starts being moved to 4:25- and a lot of times only 1 4:25 game- It's gotten MUCH more national.

Here's an interesting tidbit. If Houston and Cincy were already part of the B12 contract they would have the third and fifth highest rated (by total number of viewers) B12 games so far this season.
Cheers,
Neil

Um... that's because they played each other after Houston played and beat OU...
